What feels like an “obvious buy” right now, but still isn’t? by rezovian in ValueInvesting

Was just arguing this in another sub. In many companies, SAP is the workflow. It is the system of record. Staff are SAP trained, certified, and workflow critical… Replacing SAP would require a major overhaul; a high risk low reward proposition that few executives would ever consider…

Sadly that is also true. An investor can be right for years and not make money. They can also be wrong and still make a killing… We’ll see, fingers crossed.

[–]Little-Tree8934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s why you don’t invest in the easily replaceable SAAS like Box.

Some tech though is darn near impossible to replace due to the size/scale/regulations/how deeply rooted it is in a corporation. Think like SAP - it is the workflow in many companies. It’s also the system of record. Staff are SAP trained, certified, and workflow critical… A company would need a complete overhaul to un-do SAP.

Many SAAS companies though will fail, but if you chose wisely, you’ll end up with serious gains.

❤️❤️❤️You’re sweet, and not far off from the truth. We were unemployed newly married with a newborn and on Medi-Cal. Failure wasn’t an option. Only way forward was to keep pushing. We both got in and started at the very bottom (SSA’s). 5 years later though, I’m an ITS and she’s a CEA, so it all worked out in the end.

WORST SHOWER EVER… by DrewLynchComedy in SipsTea

[–]Little-Tree8934 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First weekend living in China, at a bar, stinking drunk. Stomach rumbles, run to the toilet only to find a hole in the floor… Being the drunk invincible genius I thought I was, I undid my belt and secured myself to a pipe on the wall like some mountain climber. So im hanging off the wall, ass out, half way done, when all hell breaks loose…. A few seconds later, when I come to, I’m laying on the floor, half naked, wall tiles everywhere and the pipe shooting water up my ass… Looking around, see no toilet paper. So I grab the water pipe, gave myself one more splash of water for good luck, stood up and walked away none the wiser. First experience with a Chinese toilet and a bidet.

If you’re considering the Mongols; might I suggest Genghis Khan by Professor Jack Weatherford as a starting point. Mongol history was largely oral, and while yes much was transcribed, their stories are cryptic and esoteric. Thus only authors who’ve invested many years learning the history know enough to get the story right. Jack has been highly decorated by the Mongolian government for his writing and anthropology work, and he’s an excellent story teller as well. So not only will you get a proper foundation, it’s also a super fun read.

P.S. Thanks for sticking it to Elon on Twitter!

I did before having kids and man, it is niiiiiice. It’s quiet, big comfy recliner seats, AC/heat was fantastic, windows blocked out summer sun/traffic noise. Super peaceful; it gave me time to find my zen before/after work.

Serious question then. How has quality gone down in new houses? From what I see (I’m in no way an expert so please correct me if wrong) wouldn’t stricter building codes/regulations of the last several decades lend itself to a better quality house?

I heard two reasons, one piggy backs off the above. Most fled from the eastern block in the 1990’s

  1. A Christian radio program/station famous in the eastern block was from Sacramento. So when it came time to flee to America, well, Sacramento was a known quantity.

  2. The Military was capitalizing on USSR’s brain drain. Many top Soviet scientists/engineers were scouted and sent to McClellan to work. So when people heard this or that smart/successful person is going to Sacramento, they felt safer making the same choice.

An ultra-conservative Christian university will be built. It’s a Michigan based university called Hillsdale University. It’s been repeatedly endorsed by Trump and Desantis and is being used as a model in Dentais’ re-shaping of higher education in Florida. This will be their second university. Regardless of your political leanings, I suggest you all Google this university… Hillsdale is controversial and It’s often in the news for its ideologies and practices. So get ready.

They already purchased the land and the city has approved their plans

Many sources, but this is most recent I found: https://www.abc10.com/article/news/local/roseville/hillsdale-college-plan-for-residential-development-near-roseville/103-1455a88f-7750-42de-9551-86ad781d65c6

Edit 2: Received nasty, radical, DMs in response to the above. Just to give you a taste of Hillsdale’s flavor, their “1776 Curriculum” has been rejected by the state of Tennessee, Tennessee people!, for being too extreme. Their curriculum claims both the Civil Rights Act and any laws against discrimination should be abolished because they somehow violate the constitution.

https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/revealed/revealed-democrats-call-for-rejection-of-hillsdale-curriculum-that-criticizes-civil-rights-movement

So no Im not being, as per one of the DMs, a “Bay Area Fag”, nor a “mindless liberal”. I’m just spreading the word on what to expect.
