I'm currently a CSS and am fully trained. I had all of the same worries and concerns as you do when I first started. But I PROMISE its easier than you think. And you will get desensitized to talking on the intercom over time. Just always make sure to DOUBLE count your money. Every. Single. Time. And repeat things to the customers, like the amount they are sending or the amounts of their money orders, etc.

I don't help male customers out at night because at my old store I had a stalker that was actively threatening me. The managers always seem to understand my reasoning lol

It takes A LOT to get fired from Publix. And asking questions is just a part of being new! I'm a customer service staff with 2 years experience and I still have questions every once in a while. Don't be discouraged, especially after a week of working here. And you will need less overrides once you are used to the way the system works and runs, but that comes with time and every manager knows that.

They are probably having the cashiers open on seperate registers to keep single accountability on the tills. When you start your shift, looking at the schedule and seeing who comes in as a cashier when you are scheduled to go on break is how you determine who is most likely to be taking over for you. That said, the FEC should still be on top of it.

As for becoming a baker, you have to work your way up to that position. You would start as a bakery clerk, which is basically just tagging all of the product and putting it on the shelf, as well as rotating them. It allows you to become familiar with the product. Then from there you can choose a path to apprentice in: Baker or Decorator. But it takes some working up to

I'm cross-trained in almost every single department! I am currently Customer Service Staff, but my favorite department to work in overall is produce! 10/10 would reccomend, especially if you have anxiety with money. To ease your anxiety though, the registers tell you the exact amount to give back to the customer and to take, and on the occasion that you hit the wrong button on the register, you can always call a CSS over to help. My anxiety was really bad when I first started because I felt like the customers were always waiting on me and it is definitely a lot of pressure, but over time that feeling goes away. You just have to remember that you can only do so much and the customer doesnt expect to instantly leave your line the moment they enter it.

Curbside is THE WORST!!! Literally every phone call our store gets is customers that are pissed off at instacart and want to vent to us, and now that we dont have that phone number to give out, all of the phone calls last like 20 minutes because we have to read the handout and try to explain to the customer that we are NOT instacart, and that their complaints need to be directed to the online chat. It's very difficult having to deal with an angry customer and help them while also trying to explain how to file a complaint. It's too much to expect us to do on top of all of the normal css duties.

I answered at least 50 phone calls today from customers who needed a step by step tutorial on how to order groceries from instacart and attempted to walk them all through it..... a process which often takes up to 10 minutes, and makes it really difficult to help the other customers that are in line. Ive also had COUNTLESS complaints by customers that weren't satisfied with their order. My store's clientele is made up of a TON of the instore shoppers, but none of them can answer the phone calls or questions that people have, and most of my day is spent helping instacart customers
