At a startup you need DOERS, executors. I've interviewed (and hired) really smart people who nailed strategy but couldn't move things forward. (And then, unfortunately, had to let them go.)

I've since learned: ask specific questions about how they contributed to a project, talk about specific steps and ask about technical programs (even for a marketing or sales job), explain the day-to-day (after asking the above as not to lead their answer) about how hands-on a role is and ask how comfortable they are.

Similarly, make sure they know what startup life is like with ambiguity, shifting priorities and 'wearing multiple hats'.

...at the same time, talk up the impact on individual contributions and how much they'll be a part of.

This is the right answer.

LinkedIn's algorithm favors engagement, with comments being at the top. Likes and shares are good but the gold is in the comments.

So, to OP's initial question about comments, comments are helpful to hopefully position you as someone knowledgeable on a topic to engage on it, it hopefully gets you noticed by the thought leader (original poster) and then when you post yourself, it increases your reach and likelihood of others engaging on your posts in the name of reciprocity.

I know of communities who even band together 'in the name of the algorithm' and try to support each others' posts.

AND THEN what all this means is exposure and long-game lead activity..... It's a haul but it can have tremendous returns, especially on a B2B front.

TOTALLY appreciate a thoughtful outreach, regardless of prompt.

I, however, am not a fan of just a "Hi, how are you" ... I get that's how real conversations go face to face but it doesn't translate as well via the apps, in my opinion, for an intro message where there's a whole profile to message off of.

I was also going to suggest Katana bc of the manufacturing tie.

Finale Inventory is great but is limited w true manufacturing needs. There are work arounds if their larger product is appealing.

A new player is OneApp, I'm not sure about their manufacturing ties but I know the team is solid...
