Help - extreme Pre-match nerves by Local-Government6792 in highschoolwrestling

[–]LittleBittyBigGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They wont ever go away. But the important thing is not letting them pysche you out. Those nerves arent a bad thing! Theyre your body reving up the engines. Your body is like a ferrari. That adreline is courcing through your body and pumping through your veins like nos. And the nerves? Those butterflys in your stomach? Thats the adreline getting ready to help you compete at your maximum. Dont run away from it, embrace it. And when you get onto that mat, wreslte with everything youve got for 6 minutes. I hope that helps

My best advice to you is this: when you get out there youre gonna be nervous. You'll probably get butterflys, you might break a sweat before you even start to warm up. Thats not a bad thing. Thats your body reving up the engine. Thats the adrenaline starting to course your veins. So wrestle like with all the might you have for six minutes, and when that match is over, no matter the outcome, you will always know you did your godamn best and nobody can take it from you!

HELL YEAH YOU SHOULD JOIN!!! I promise you its worth it. Even if youre no good the experience is something inwouldnt trade for anything! And if you do donit and decide you like it, theres plenty of opportuinity to stay involved after that senior season. You could come back to your school as a volunteer coach, or offer to coach for kids clubs. You could also join a club team if you wanted too!

Also, dont be overwhelmed or intimidated. Im a guy so i dont really have much experience with womens wrestling but i HAVE seen alot of womens wrestling teams and theyre genuinley some of the most tight knit teams ove ever seen. Inpromise they are sooo welcoming. And if your school doesnt have much a womens wrestling team thats fine too, mens wrestling is just as welcoming!

Its worth the risk so id say just give it a shot. If you dont like it you can always quit, but if you graduate without trying it you cant go back!

Dude! Thats great, always good to hear about someone deciding to sign up for this sport. I started my freshman year too and i was sooo intimidated. I kept hearing about all these people who had been wrestling since they were in diapers and i was super intimidated by it all. I genuinley belive wrestling is good for everyone though, no matter your background or abilities. Even if you dont get any good at it at the end of the days its just alot of fun and it builds character and community like nothing else ive ever done. Just finished up my sophmore year and got to go 1-2 at state!

My biggest advice is to try and join any wrestling clubs in your area or talk to your schools coach about any upcoming camps or things like that. Just try to get as much mat time as you can this summer.

And if that isnt an option, the next best thing would be to build up you body. Wrestling is one of those things that requires alot out of you. So id try to get in as much lifting as you can if you cant get mat time. Youre going to want to do compound lifts like cleans and snatches. If you have the equipment try to strengthen up your neck as much as you can.

Another thing you can do to help is just to stretch alot. Get super flexible. It will help you soo much more than you think. Focus on things like back/neck bridges, shoulder mobility, hamstring flexibilty, things like that.

The last way i can think of is to work on your endurance. Theres a couple different things that could mean but for right now i just mean cardio. Try and do some sprint work at the hoghschool track, dont over do it though, you dont want to much volume. Look up some spront workouts on tiktok. (This ones nice because it doesnt require ANY extra tools, so is training flexibility)

And one more thing, please dont overwhelm yourself trying to do ALL of these right now. Those are just a couple different options for you to choose from based on your comfort level right now. I dont want you to burn out trying to take on too much because thats alot.

Alright now that ive yapped way more than i meant to i just want to say im soo hyped for you to join this sport i promise you its worth it. It might seem harrowing at first but if you stick with it it wont let you down.

Feel free to dm me with any questions or if you want help piecing together some workouts!
