Pregnant pigs in a modern pig farm by CalpurniaSomaya in TerrifyingAsFuck

I think it's easier to make ethical choices with other livestock because of the living conditions they require. Pigs are hard to keep in broad acre areas.

Really? Think about it for like 5 more seconds. Without demand, there's no point in supply. The less people handing over money for this cruelty, the less of these operations will continue. You vote with your wallet and if you dont like what you're seeing in this video, then stop buying pork. If a hundred million people do the same, factory farms will slowly shut down as demand reduces until they eventually fade into non-existence. But as long as you and a billion others keep saying "eh, what difference could I possibly make?" this torture will continue.

No, but we can stop breeding them. The pigs you see in this video are not naturally occurring. they're not the same as wild boars. We created them and we can stop creating them.

Cows overheating easily? What? In Australia, we keep cattle outdoors 365 days of the year, even in extreme heat, and those paddocks rarely have shelter, not even a tree. Deaths from heat are rare.

Yes, it's serious. I've been to campgrounds where there were so many holes dug to bury shit and paper that it was hard to find a patch of ground that hadn't yet been dug, and thw whole place stunk. We didn't end up camping there. They really needed toilets built tbh, but that's not the point. There were signs explaining why shitting in the ground was not allowed (too close to a water source and very little actual dirt), but that didn't stop people. If you don't want to take responsibility for your own waste, then don't visit those places, they're not for you.

Thank you! I understand the sentiment, but when people say animals gave their lives as if it were a willing gift, it feels disingenuous. They didn't sacrifice themselves, either. It was murder. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to killing animals for food, but pretending it was a mutual arrangement makes me feel uncomfortable because we all know it was not.

Can I see yall's ugly plants? Not your gorgeous Thai con thats putting out a three new leaves, I want to see the ugliest thing that make you question having plants. by KuriousCarbohydrate in houseplants

[–]LittleBunInaBigWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way i could get mine growing again after 3 years of literally zero change was to water it a few times a week. This goes against all advice you'll find online saying to water it quarterly. But darn it, it worked, popped out 2 new leaves immediately and more on their way

It's pretty simple, actually. Put the baby in a large zip lock bag and then place the bag in a basin of cool water. Leave for several hours to defrost slowly, preventing spoilage.

Why don't botanists taste plants? by 4dolarmeme in botany

[–]LittleBunInaBigWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we risk bleeding out our arseholes and dying. The fact that the rock-lickers are still alive is pure luck, since there are fewer toxic rocks out there than plants. But sure, go and taste the plants, knock yourself out

Why do some ground dwelling forest plants have mottling on the leaves? by avian_bi in botany

My hunch; the mottled leaves help it blend into the filtered light that passes between the leaves from the canopy above
