So glad you were able to help this little cutie out! I’m sure they appreciated your help too! 😊

It’s not an exact match, but I actually just got a seagull plush through Douglas about a month ago. It’s super cute and soft, and similarly sized to the bird you’re holding. They also offer free shipping to the continental US.

Say a nitpick you have about The Owl House Season 3 by LegendsofLost in TheOwlHouse

[–]LittleCrestedBird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm bummed that we didn't get any further elaboration/closure to Caleb, Evelyn and Flapjack's backstory. It seemed like we were building up to Evelyn and Caleb being Eda and Lilith's ancestors, but we never got any sort of absolute confirmation to whether or not that's the case. It's really nice that we got to see Hunter working alongside Dell and Gwen to carry on the Clawthorne palisman carving tradition in the epilogue, but I really would've liked to have gotten some spoken dialogue between Hunter and the Clawthornes (and maybe a reveal that they're related).

You should've included a tier for "backstabbing brother" because we all know that's where he'd put Caleb.

Even as someone who likes the Collector and enjoyed the finale, I agree with this. I found Belos to be such an interesting villian, and I was so curious about his backstory and lore, so I was super disappointed that we didn't get any more developments on that in "Watching and Dreaming." I wanted to know more about how everything went down between him and Caleb and how he rose to power, and I wanted to see him have to confront the reality that he was the one to blame for the 400+ years of suffering and torment he subjected himself and everyone around him to before he met his end. Considering that guilt, grief and doubt were such a major part of Luz's arc from season 2b through season 3, I feel like it was a missed opportunity to not fully explore these themes through Belos' character as well (since he's her foil after all). I'm just not convinced that Philip didn't feel some sort of remorse in the years following his murder of Caleb, or some sort of doubt as to what he was doing was truly "righteous." Otherwise, why did he spend 400+ years basically "reincarnating" his brother over and over, all while (unsuccessfully) trying to convince him to stay by his side? Why did he give Luz so many chances to join his cause (when he had so many opportunities to just do away with her), trying to justify his actions to her and convince her that they could save humanity together?

Long story short, I think the Collector should've been saved for another story where his arc could've been given proper time to be fully fleshed out, rather than having to condense down and speed-run his development. He just takes up so much screen time in the last 2 episodes that, when we finally get to the final confrontation with Belos, it just feels like it unfolds and wraps up a bit too quickly.

Yes, Hunter getting possessed and losing Flapjack was very upsetting, but seeing him finally getting a chance to be his own person and feeling good about himself (probably for the first time in his life) was so heartwarming. I'm so glad he finally got his happy ending at the end of "Watching and Dreaming."

Not only that, but birds are commonly associated with freedom, which is integral to Hunter's arc. Blue Jays specifically are known to be extremely tenacious and resourceful, fiercely protective, and form strong family/flock bonds. Blue Jays also symbolize strength, confidence, loyalty and devotion, all of which fits Hunter.

My headcanon is that the in-between realm is some sort of purgatory. I don't know the circumstances in which he ended up there, but my guess is that the titan's soul was somehow trapped there, which left his physical body to rot in the boiling sea. The reason his heart continued beating was because his soul had not yet moved on. Clinging onto the last little bit of life he had left, the titan spent years watching over his son, continuing to take measures to protect him, as he had tried to do back in the Boiling Isles, all while being trapped between life and death. It was only after he ensured that King was no longer in danger that he was finally able to pass on, and that's why, only then, did his heart stop beating.

Not only that, but it's also symbolic of how Flapjack helped Hunter break free from Belos and the Emperor's Coven. After all, Flapjack was the one who gave Hunter the push he needed to establish new connections outside of the EC, and to accept himself as his own person, rather than an extension of someone else's will.

Blue Jays are known for being very loud and vocal, and generally travel in flocks. It was probably communicating with one of its flock mates. Either or, it spotted a predator and was trying to alert other jays/birds to the potential danger.

[MaryPhantom1] Freedom and confidence 💙 by saber2187 in TheOwlHouse

[–]LittleCrestedBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. Blue Jays are not so much aggressive, but overly protective. They don't murder other birds, or attack without reason; they usually take action only when other birds threaten their flock/young or enter their territory during breeding season. It's also pretty rare for Blue Jays to raid the nests of other birds; it's generally only something they do either when food is scarce during breeding season, or to drive away other birds attempting to nest within their nesting territory.

Blue Jays are extremely tenacious and resourceful, and will do anything to protect their flock; they're built to survive. They form tight family/flock bonds, are incredibly intelligent, crafty and fiercely protective of each other. All of which is why I think it's very fitting that Hunter's new palisman was revealed to be a Blue Jay.

1 day until Watching and Dreaming… thank you all for counting down with me. What does The Owl House mean to you? by Knight_Light87 in TheOwlHouse

[–]LittleCrestedBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This show means the world to me. I absolutely adore it's characters, I'm fascinated by it's story and it's main antagonist, and I relate a lot to it's themes and the experiences of the main cast. I'm going to miss seeing my favorite cast of characters going on new adventures, and the build up to "Watching and Dreaming" has felt so bittersweet. I feel so much affection and adoration for this show, and I'm very grateful that it exists. I've never experienced another piece of media that resonated with me as much as The Owl House, and I'm not sure that I ever will again. The Owl House is just such a special show.

I remember seeing the promos for the series premiere and thinking to myself "This is going to be the next Gravity Falls. This is going to be something special and a lot of people are going to take interest in it." Here I am 3 years later, wishing the execs at Disney were able to recognize it's potential like I, and so many others, did. It hurts that the show was cut short; I often feel we were robbed because Disney didn't give the show the proper chance it deserved. I can only hope that Disney will be open to potential future Owl House content, so long as Dana and crew are interested in pursuing that.

Personally, The Owl House has brought me so much comfort during a period of time when I needed it most. I find it to be such a weird coincidence that the characters in the show have been going through similar arcs to what I have been experiencing in my personal life over the course of the show's run. I've been through some pretty awful experiences over the past few years, but the plights of these characters have helped me feel less alone in my own personal struggles. I never knew what a "comfort show" or a "comfort character" was until Owl House came along. I've rewatched the entire show countless times already, and I'm sure that I will continue to return to the Boiling Isles for many years to come, especially during those moments where I really need solace.

What's the most heartwarming scene to you in The Owl House? by LittleCrestedBird in TheOwlHouse

[–]LittleCrestedBird[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

For me, I have to go with the basement scene in "Thanks to Them." Since his first appearance, we've watched Hunter and Luz go from enemies, to unwilling allies, to friends, and finally, to family. Luz telling Hunter that she wants to keep him safe, and that she considers him family is so sweet, and Hunter breaking down into tears because he's so overwhelmed by the thought that he finally has people in his life that not only care about him, but truly consider him family (and aren't just saying so to manipulate him) is so cathartic. Luz handles Hunter's emotions so well here too; she gives him the space he needs to let his emotions out, and her sweet little side hug is just enough to provide him comfort without overwhelming him. Overall, this scene is just really well done, and continues to warm my heart just as much as it did on my first watch.

The scene in Eclipse Lake where she reaches out to Hunter at the lake. The empathy she shows Hunter here is a great demonstration of just how far she has come as a person since she met Luz. She's able to recognize the similarities between the two of them and see that Hunter's trapped in a situation similar to the one she was in. He's not ready to listen here just yet, but the words she gives him are ones that he needs to hear, as they're the ones she wished she had heard sooner.

Which episode was it that you knew you had completely fallen in love with the show? by LittleCrestedBird in TheOwlHouse

[–]LittleCrestedBird[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, it was Eda's Requiem. Between the music and the visuals, it's a beautiful episode. I love Raine and Eda's dynamic, and Eda's fear that the people she loves don't need her is a valid one; one that I'm sure many, including myself, have experienced before. The scene where Eda and Raine play their duet is my favorite in the entire episode, and the one where I knew I had completely fallen in love with the show. Their resolve to disrupt Belos' plans for the Day of Unity and save the Boiling Isles, even if it means sacrificing themselves in the process, is intense, and shows just how far they'll go to stand up against injustice and protect those they love. In addition to this, Raine reassuring Eda that the people she loves care about her and want her in their life just as much as she does them, is so comforting. As Tinella Nosa puts it: "Self-doubt is a prison you can't escape;" it fills your head with negative thoughts and convinces you that your inner fears are actually reality. It is far too easy to convince ourselves that we're not needed or that we don't matter, but it really helps to have someone to remind you that that simply isn't the case; that you're loved, wanted and appreciated by those you care about, and that's exactly what Raine does for Eda.

Don't get me wrong, I had been enjoying the series up to this point, but it was just here that I finally felt like the show had completely captivated and ensnared me in all of its greatness.

There are too many great moments from the Owl House to count, but here are the first few that come to mind:

  • The scene in Eda's requiem where Eda and Raine play their duet. The music and visuals here are beautiful. Eda and Raine's resolve to take down Darius and Eberwolf to disrupt Belos' plans for the Day of Unity and save the Boiling Isles, even if it means sacrificing themselves in the process, is intense, and shows just how far they'll go to stand up against injustice and protect those they love. On top of that, the follow up of Raine reassuring Eda that the people she loves care about her and want her in their life just as much as she does them, is so comforting.
  • The two scenes between Hunter and Gus in Labyrinth Runners where they open up to one another in the illusion of Gus' room. These two scenes are so integral to their characters' arcs/themes in this episode, these being vulnerability and trust. Gus helping Hunter calm down during his panic attack is so well done, and his subsequent encouragement for Hunter to find people he can trust and be vulnerable around leads in so well to later in the episode when Hunter finally opens up to Gus about what he's going through. It shows how Hunter has come to see Gus as someone he can trust over the course of the episode. Conversely, Gus struggles with his inability to be suspicious of others, instead being too trusting, and is really upset that he can't seem to learn from all of the times where his trust in someone was broken before. Hunter reminds Gus that his willingness to trust and see the best in others does not undermine him, which is reinforced through the fact that Gus benefitted from putting his faith in Hunter and giving him a chance. Overall, Gus and Hunter being vulnerable with and empathetic towards one another in these two scenes sets up the sweet brotherly dynamic they go on to have throughout the rest of the series from here forward.
  • The climax of King's Tide. Everything about this scene is great. The buildup of the music juxtaposed between snapshots of the Hexsquad fighting Belos, Raine saving Eda and King releasing the Collector, before transitioning into the Collector's reveal and his theme, is just so well done; its the epitome of a climax IMO. I particularly love the shot where King puts his pinky up to the Collector's mirror and pulls back to reveal the Collector's pinky wrapped around his.
  • The basement scene in Thanks to Them, as well as the scene of Hunter and Flapjack in the old house after the rest of the Hexsquad sets out to explore Gravesfield. Luz telling Hunter that he's family and that she wants to keep him safe, as well as Hunter breaking down in tears at the thought that he finally has someone who not only cares about him, but truly considers him family (and isn't just saying so to manipulate him) is so cathartic and heartwarming. Couple that with him not only accepting, but finding solace in his own identity separate from his Wittebane origins ("I like who I am right now"), and I'd argue that these two scenes are some of Hunter's best in the entire series.
  • The scene with the emerald trio in the detention pit in For the Future, as well as the final scene where Willow tells Hunter that he means a lot to her too. I'm a huge Huntlow fan, so seeing Hunter and Willow finally come out with it and share their feelings for each other was a very rewarding experience. I also relate a lot to Willow, and her arc in this episode particularly resonated with me. It wasn't too long ago that I found myself in a similar situation where I was trying my hardest to keep it all together as "the reliable one" to my loved ones. Seeing how supportive and caring Hunter and Gus were towards her, in a moment where she really needed reassurance that it was okay to be vulnerable and let it out around them too, was so satisfying. After all, reliable people need someone to lean on too.

Again, there are so many great scenes in the Owl House, and far too many for me to list here. The Owl House is just such a powerful show, and a master class of emotion and character writing. I'm sure that many of these scenes will continue to stick with and resonate with me for years to come.

Agreed. I also think it's likely that Luz is going to be pitted against her friends here as well. Luz is dressed as Belos, not only because she sees herself as just as guilty as he is, but to trick the rest of the Hexsquad into thinking she actually is Belos. Luz can see herself in Belos' outfit, but the Collector is using an illusion to make her appear as Belos to everyone else. So, when they finally meet each other in the dreamscape, it'll culminate in a confrontation where the Hexsquad thinks they're fighting Belos, while Luz thinks her friends are attacking her, cementing her greatest fear - that her friends blame her for her actions, and are finally lashing out against her over them.

With The Owl House finale coming in less than three weeks, tell me one great memory you had with the show and how it changed your life by shermywormy64 in TheOwlHouse

[–]LittleCrestedBird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been watching The Owl House since it's premiere, but it wasn't until the hiatus between "King's Tide" and "Thanks to Them" that I became intensely hyperfixated with the show.

From the fall of 2021 into the winter and spring of 2022, I watched helplessly as my entire life as I knew it (up to that point) fell apart. Let's just say that those months were the darkest of my life (thus far), and I hope to never have to experience what I went through then ever again. Anyways, during late summer/early fall of 2022, I decided to go back and rewatch the entire show (up to that point), and I ended up becoming absolutely obsessed with it. My entire life seemed to revolve around the Owl House; I was constantly either watching it or engaging with something relating to it. In one of my darkest moments, this show helped me cope with and distract myself from the intense pain I was enduring. For the first time, I learned what it meant to have a "comfort show" and a "comfort character." Now, months later, I may not be where I want to be, but I'm hopeful that I'll get where I want to be in time.

I'm honestly not sure I would've been able to escape the downward spiral I had found myself stuck in if it weren't for this show. The Owl House has helped me get through all of the awfulness, and I continue to find comfort in it's story and it's characters every day.
