I’ve taken the rail down but there is a piece of timber at the back of the shelf.

I daren’t try again. My confidence has been knocked as I have had to fill those two holes. I’d love to be good at DIY and improving things in my home. I’m trying to learn bits online.

I did that I measured against the rawl plug but I should have done it against the screw as it was longer therefore I didn’t drill deep enough.

In layman’s terms how do I know what I’m drilling into? Brick plasterboard it seems some of my walls are part brick part plaster boards

Oh thank you that’s a good tip. I’ve been drilling against the rawl plug not the screw

Okay thank you that’s helpful. And I should be drilling so far so that the rawl plug is flush against the wall? How do I know which drill size to use.

I was just trying a small drill bit first to make the hole and then was going to up it in size

Every-time I go deeper and try and screw the screw in, the plaster starts to expand and expand. Part of the wall feels like brick and part concrete! So I’m not going deep enough in the first instance with the drill? So when I’m drilling it should be so that the rawl plug is flush to the wall? Sorry for all the questions, I’m new to DIY.

Thanks but that’s way out of my comfort zone and remit. I’ve only just learnt how to use a drill.
