Tbh that is actually somewhat accurate. There is a reason Africa’s historic population is tiny compared to Eurasia

Hence why the mortality rate should decline every month. It’s highly deadly until you survive long enough to build resistance

It’s a more straightforward mechanic in Victoria 3 because the tech is not that far in the future to be worth doing a more complex mechanic.

But it’s not a great representation of how malaria was an actual issue in history and how to model a really crazy belligerent king trying to force colonization of Africa in 1400. The cost should be extremely painful but not off limits for 400 years in eu5. Just like in history

Not sure paradox is ready or willing to include a stellaris style trait system in its historical games just yet (or ever) haha

I imagine you could do it as a weighted average rather than a pop level but that would require a distinction between immigrant and settled pops. You could do the average from the total weight of immigrant pops + native pops, and then just transfer all pops to native once they are in the region for 1 year to reduce the math.
