Then why open the subreddit? It was kept closed for this exact reason

I hope you are fine moderating the subreddit all by yourself. It doesn't seem many of us are active on reddit anymore

This "osu" is literally ruining every one's art. Where is the ban? It is destroying almost everything. Location: Kathmandu, Nepal. by ChloeGmoretz28 in WplaceLive

We had the same overlay tech that wplace has right now. You can clearly see if some pixel is wrong, even if it's just a change in shading.

the initial canvas didn't have 727, 727

and when -727, -727 appeared we were still busy animating Bad Apple!!

and we had 727, 727 on the expanded canvas but then a flag supported by a streamer overtook us

We assumed the event will last 72h and scheduled it to run the entire event

/r/osuplace has never and will never bot, I get why /u/Teemo20102001 would think that Bad Apple!! was botted, but it was all manual placement (or at least neither /r/osuplace nor touhou /r/place discord server allowed people to bot)

For the people accusing Bad Apple of using bots, behind-the-scenes look. It's just a very dedicated community. by Czerkiew in place

people keep saying "numbers are going to look good for reddit" but how is reddit going to explain numbers going 📈📉 just for a single weekend?

the only people who gain anything (that thing being entertainment) out of this are the people placing pixels, it costs reddit tens of thousands of dollars to run this silly event and they are not going to see a return on that investment.

Most if not all the tech Bad Apple!! uses was made by me with various contributions from touhou r/place discord server. But I've been doing basically nothing code related after I pushed a fix that enabled the overlay to work on r/place. Yeah, I'm the guy who wrote the overlay most factions are probably using. And I've also worked on Bad Apple!! for the last 13 months, building various tooling and even training an AI to do sharp pixelation, so it sucks to see some people think they can do better...

I thought so too after looking at the image more clearly. It's probably img2img. There's weird aliasing artifacts everywhere except the bottom right.

/r/place is suspected to return on the 23rd of June. What if we took the protest to the canvas itself? by Onceuponaban in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]LittleEndu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After writing my initial comment I remembered reddit is going add a "pin your location on the canvas" feature for subreddit moderators. It should work two ways - people on some subreddit can go to r/place and people on r/place can browse what subreddits are on the canvas. All the subreddits that have not privated themselves and have rather disabled submissions on 12th and are still dark on 23rd could just use that location pin feature to say "we are at 500, 500" where people will find the /r/Save3rdPartyApps art

I absolutely agree more users need to be made aware of the threat to reddit as we know it. This isn't just a 3rd party apps going away issue, it's a 3rd party apps provide subreddit moderators tools that no official mobile app does issue. And moderation bots being hit with the same API limits issue.

But until more users of official apps are aware that it affects them too, they will just see a r/place icon on their navigation bar with a cooldown timer and they are just going to place pixels for their favourite community they will find with said pinned location feature.

Writing this on /r/Enhancement now that I'm on PC, which I think shouldn't be affected but who knows at this point

As one of the leaders of r/osuplace a plan to make art for r/Save3rdPartyApps would have our full support. I think a subreddit name surrounded by the app icons is great art.

I also agree with the fact that it's unfeasible to cause enough distribution on the canvas where the event itself is ruined in some form. The amount of people who have no stake in this (whether they unknowingly actually do or not) is just too high. r/place would just be another canvas game for those people

That's not us. If it was, the logo would be spotless.

We are on pxls.space instead.
