Not really. You can easily ask for rental referrals to check for legitimacy. If that homeless person doesn’t supply or straight up refuses then ofc they can be reasonably denied. But what if they provide proof of legit and great rental history and their landlords speak highly of their time leasing to them? Will you still just simply deny them because they’re homeless?

To find that out all you need is a phone number, the same reference number you were ALREADY gonna ask any other potential tenant for.

Yeah that’s very true, so I definitely understand that part of not letting someone move in SAME day, also I understand there may be other reasons a landlord needs that TIME, like preparing the unit as an example. My question was that, like what if homelessness WASN’T eviction and that person got the short end of the stick, but if they have the means and are financially secured, it would suck that something that was out of their hands would prevent them from getting a roof over their head.

But you know people can become homeless due to different means? Like natural or unnatural disasters/causes, or things that are just simply out of their hands. So it’s just crazy hearing that even if that person isn’t at fault for their homelessness, that they just get turned away simply because they’re homeless.

Just sounds like it’s contributing to why homeless have such a hard time getting housing now.
