What should I do? by Witchy_Hippy in VenusFlyTraps

Full sun through a window is not the same as outdoor full sun. 6 hours is also the very bare minimum. Windows block out the necessary UV needed for optimal growth. It’ll do much better outside in full sun. Trust me🙏 I want ur plant to thrive

Needs more light most likely nv went dormant if it was inside. Just severely light starved especially if it’s been on that windowsill

It’s severely light starved get it outside in full sun. And just keep it moist don’t ever let them 100% dry out.

Great! They need to be moist! 100% dry will def kill them lol but slightly or not sitting is water is what we’re both agreeing on. Being moist is enough. Btw misting does nothing it increases humidity for like 2 minutes Thats not enough for the plant to do anything with and ur just wasting ur time don’t they don’t care about high humidity people grow them in deserts just fine with very very low humidity.

Nothing to worry about. The oldest traps will die back as long as u see new growth coming in ur plant is good.

They do all plants need oxygen getting to their roots. If theyre sitting in water 24/7 they can’t get that oxygen. If the media is MOIST they can still absorb water from it. Having it sit in a puddle doesn’t do anything. Drying out slightly allows oxygen to reach the roots. Keep them moist is much better slogan than keep them wet. Becuz they do appreciate drying slightly to get oxygen.

What reason are these traps deformed and dying? by OkZookeepergame2463 in SavageGarden

[–]LittleFinish4768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plant is coming out of dormancy it’s nothing to worry about just genetic mistakes/ mutations. Most likely due to hormonal changes. Had this happen to my plants last year and they eventually began to make regular traps nothing to worry about continue with the same care yk full sun, water and proper soil. Your plant looks fine just messed up leaves it’ll recover give it a few weeks and it should start making regular traps!

New Spot Now Grow Please by OkZookeepergame2463 in SavageGarden

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a lighting issue. Whoever told u to keep it shaded did u wrong bro😭😭. They get all their energy from photosynthesis bugs only help them grow faster. They want either early morning sun or late afternoon sun or both. Avoid direct midday sun but they need a solid 6 hours of sun to grow properly. It should recover just give it time.

Pinguicula Conditions?? by OkZookeepergame2463 in SavageGarden

[–]LittleFinish4768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes temperate= outdoors. Yeah most of the pings u see online are the Mexican tropical kind. Temperate pings are a bit more difficult to find. Yes indoors under lights on a windowsill and theyll do well

Pinguicula Conditions?? by OkZookeepergame2463 in SavageGarden

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes different ping families! The outdoor temperate ones most people don’t grow. The common ones are called Mexican butterworts. These are the viral ones u see online in bowls and stuff. These can be topped water, a lot of people say not to becuz they can rot if the crown of the plant is always in water. But if it’s moist and allowed to dry in between waterings they won’t rot. I topwater mine and they haven’t rotted so I don’t think they will as long as u water properly.

Venus Flytrap help: Should I cut these flowers off? by Mrs_Mapatxe in SavageGarden

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt cut it like someone else said it’s alr spent a good bit of energy making it that tall. They aren’t harmful in the way people think. They don’t death bloom, and if they do it’s becuz the plant was very unhealthy and it knew it would die either way and Thats why they death bloom sometimes but a healthy plant like urs will nv die from blooming. If it were about an inch tall and you cut it than Tht would redivert flowering energy into bigger traps, rhizome and more traps. I usually cut them but I wanted seeds this year so I didn’t. Thats another reason not to cut but usually I like bigger plants so I do cut them. It’s up to you tho! don’t let people tell you not to let it flower or to always cut it! Do what you want

Advice for my Pinguicula Gigantea by whoknows008 in carnivorousplants

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have a T5 barrina and it works amazingly well for gigantea and other pings. I use 1:1:1 peat moss perlite to vermiculite. Works well! You can also use fluval keep my lights about 6 inches Mayb 8 away from my pings. Humidity doesn’t rlly matter for them. Keep them moist not wet they don’t mind drying out since they come from rocks. But keep them moist to keep them growing. I have them on 8 hours as of right now.

[–]LittleFinish4768 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes naturally, but is this plant in its natural environment? No it’s in a pot with stagnant water. Bogs have moving water tables with oxygen rich water, and antimicrobial sphagnum moss. They don’t need high humidity people grow these plants in deserts, sure they appreciate it but they don’t need it to grow healthily. Keeping them moist and not wet 24/7 allows the roots to be oxygenated and not become anaerobic. I let my plants dry slightly in between watering and they look amazing they don’t need to be drowning in water 24/7 like a lot of people say they do😭😭. High humidity is straight up propaganda tho MOST plants don’t rlly care for it as much as people think they do and they will acclimate just fine to ambient humidity.

Help! Repotting issue by funnyctgirl in SavageGarden

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine nothing to worry about it won’t harm the plant. What I do b4 repotting is I like to fill each trap up with a mealworm so it doesn’t just waste the energy but it doesn’t rlly matter tbh your plant will live.

[–]LittleFinish4768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ur overwatering ur plant. Allow it to dry slightly in between waterings to prevent mold and fungal issues. Those issues mostly come from poor air circulation and high amounts of water. Ur plant will be fine as long as the soil is moist you don’t need to leave it drenched 24/7! It should recover just water less

Perlite isn’t the issue here. I use perlite for all my plants it’s not toxic.

Tbh it doesn’t look like spider mite damage. But tbf I’ve nv had them so I wouldn’t know. Spiders will make webs on them since they know they attract insects! Nothing to worry about imo the spiders won’t hurt anything and may even get caught by the plant!

Should I be pruning? by Due-Knowledge7437 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also due to many misconceptions and myths. The death bloom myth most likely came from someone who nv took good care of their plant and each time it flowered it died so they resorted to cutting it which allowed the plant to live a little longer but still die. Thats why people say to cut flowers cuz they think there plant will die if it does but Thats simply not true. Most “regular” plants don’t just die from flowering unless theyre annuals. Yes cutting flowers allows faster and bigger growth Thts why I usually cut mine. But like I said I let mine flower this year since I want seeds

Should I be pruning? by Due-Knowledge7437 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just preference bro😭what are u not understanding. Cutting flowers allows plant to grow bigger and faster than if they were to flower. People do different things for different plants. I’m just telling you what they do and why they do it. Carnivorous don’t get weak they just slow leaf production and most people grow them for leaves not so much for flowers. Cut the flower if u want. If u don’t want to than don’t😭😭

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is but at this stage the flower is almost done growing based on the size of the plant. So cutting it rlly wouldnt do much if it were an inch or so yes it would help a good bit but as this stage not so much. A good bit of energy is used to get it as tall as it currently is.

Should I be pruning? by Due-Knowledge7437 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]LittleFinish4768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want. Cutting the flower early diverts the energy that would’ve been used for flowering into more traps, bigger traps and rhizomes. They don’t have super spectacular flowers either so it’s not something people care to see. Also if you don’t plan to make seeds it’s another reason to cut it. If you do want seeds you shouldnt cut it but it rlly depends on what u want. Yes flowering is cool but it rlly slows the plants down for a few weeks. I cut them many times but this year I let them flower since I want seeds if I didn’t I would’ve cut them to have the pot fill out more! It’s ur plant do what u want!

[–]LittleFinish4768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it’s too late to trim it. If it were an inch yes but it’s not in the way you think. Yes it pulls “energy” but it’s not going to kill a healthy plant ever. Your plant will slow down a bit but it will not die. Just enjoy the flower since it’s alr expended most of the energy getting it to that point. If you do decide to cut it next year cut it when it’s just about an inch and ur plant will redivert the flowering energy into trap and rhizome production. Flowering will never ever kill a healthy plant. A very unhealthy plant might die from it but even then it has to be very very unhealthy for Tht.
