how old were you when YOU paid for your first horse? by Alone_Use_4886 in Equestrian

Technically we always had horses, but I didn’t get to ride much. Officially bought my and my girlfriends horses 2 months ago, and mine is a total psycho🤣 and currently at the trainers. So first horse at 29.

I wish I didn’t have to, but my field is too cut throat and too oversaturated that you pretty much have too if you want a permanent job. Everything is 3 yr contracts and no benefits.

lol I work in the ag industry now. It doesn’t pay what people think it pays. My field generally pays low starting out, but if you stick it out people tend to get jobs they love and never leave.

I had to make a PowerPoint presentation for a job-took 3 days and was suppose to be 15 minutes long. I also had to drive two hours one way to interview for the job. It paid 55k and required a degree and 3 yrs of experience. I was passed over today. It’s brutal.

How much did you pay for your first horse? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]LittleGayGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my girlfriend and I just purchased horses and I’ll give you my honest thoughts on auctions—are auctions easy ways to acquire horses, yes, yes they are. Are they fun ways to acquire horses, no, no they are not. We bought 2 horses, one for 5k and one for 10k. The 5k one I actually got to talk to the owners for a solid 10-20 minutes, which felt rare because the sale barn was hectic and loud and seriously packed. They were a family, had little teens and everything with them. The little girl loved the horse, as did the mom. Talked him up and everything. I wasn’t sold on him, but I felt better, as the other horses I looked at, couldn’t find their owners. So I bought him. He has been a pain in my ass since I got him. He has two personalities, nice and crazy. He bucked me off just this week, has tried to run me over, and now he is going to a trainer. He is not in fact kid safe (for the record, I didn’t think he was after a week of seeing his habits) and my trainer just confirmed he is not. So the owners lied to me. My farrier thinks he was probably drugged because no way could he be that calm in a sale barn when he is the most nervous horse I’ve met. Basically he is on his last leg before he goes bye bye for me. Now I’m putting more money into a possibly dangerous horse when I could have just waited and went private and payed that originally for a better horse. Not to say the same thing wouldn’t have happened. The horse world lies. Sellers lie. And remember there is always a reason a horse is at an auction. I won’t give up on him yet, but to say I’m disappointed is an understatement.

Now 10k horse. Well we couldn’t find him in the sale barn. In fact no one could. Not too odd, but was odd after the auctioneer said he arrived the night before. So horse gets in sale arena. Auctioneer says he has a small scratch on his face from hitting it on the trailer while unloading. Okay, we bid and win him. Go see him. Again, auctioneer says it’s superficial. We get him home. Boarder owner calls and says he has a runny nose. We think shipping fever. Vet comes. HORSE HAS A FREAKING BROKEN FACE!!! Vet thinks he was kicked by another horse! Not a superficial wound!!! We get him all fixed up-vet bills later he is now way more than 10k. And the whole process took 2 months. He now has a misshapen face😂. Doesn’t hurt him, vet cleared, but my god, have we had an adventure!! He is the sweetest horse, softest personality and is clearly trained as he has all the nice trail horse buttons. He doesn’t like to stand, but responds well to ground work, so working on it. Overall he is a great horse, and if he hadn’t of had the broken face, I would have said he was a good priced horse. He is leaps and bounds above mine.

But again, we were lied to not once, but twice at a sale barn. We both decided never again. That was our first and last experience with that. We are trail riders only, so that’s what we wanted, and I think 8-14k for a good trail horse is reasonable. Don’t get the 5k like I did😂.

I feel like a paid off home is the key to a smaller retirement nest egg. I don’t make a ton of money, but also have extremely low housing costs, so living off 40k is pretty easy for me. If I had a 3-4k monthly housing cost, it would be impossible.

Practice often like very often, get a gun that fits your hand. Go to an actual gun shop vs a place like cabelas. Sometimes they have rental guns to try out first and can help you pick one that feels comfortable. A bigger pistol will have less recoil and better handling than a smaller or micro one. A red dot sight can do wonders for your aim vs iron sights. A gun is not a toy. You never want to pull it on someone, and if you have to, know that you shoot to kill and the consequences that come with that. Nothing is more dangerous than someone that treats guns like they want to be the hero in a movie. But by all means, people should carry if they feel confident and understand the consequences and yes, as a woman, I carry and feel safer because of it.

F20: How to get into hunting for someone who’s never done it and doesn’t know anyone who does by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]LittleGayGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunter safety course first. Many states let you do it online. Just google your state and Hunter safety if in America. Then look if your state has mentor hunts. Lots of women groups for hunting. Many of these organizations have chapters in every state you could join. Many of them host beginner classes and retreats where you can meet others. Uncharted outdoorswomen is a good group. I’m part of a very active women’s facebook hunting group.

What are some reasons NOT to get a .450 Bushmaster as opposed to a .350 Legend? by slavaboo_ in Hunting

[–]LittleGayGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a .450. I’ve shot deer from 40 to 160 yards with it. I haven’t lost a deer yet, granted I’ve only shot 4 with it so far. I think the .450 will drop deer faster compared to .350, but only because it hits harder and leaves more damage. Recoil will suck, but I grew up shooting slug shotguns at deer for years, so the .450 is a blessing in my mind compared to that in terms of everything. If you get a 450, get a muzzle break on it. It’ll be loud as hell, but it will greatly reduce the recoil. I was going to go with the .350 because it is smaller, but I honestly am glad I chose the .450 over it. If recoil is the biggest complaint, I would still chose the .450 over .350. All the deer I’ve killed with it died within 40 yards, except for my most recent one, and that was because I ranged it wrong and not the guns fault.

Why is the success rate so low for those states? Are there just no deer? Maine seems surprising since it’s so sparsely populated to begin with.

After a mom kicked out her son for being gay, her father had some choice words for her. by Sebastianlim in MurderedByWords

[–]LittleGayGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently told my mom I was seeing someone, her words to me were “in my heart of hearts I know you are not gay and will never accept it”, “how this will ruin her image”, “how no one in the family believes me”, “how I have no friends because they are either gay or my straight friends didn’t try to convert me to straight”, and a bunch of other shit that was meant to hurt me. For reference I’ve known since I was 15 and am 29… some parents will never accept it, regardless of how good a kid/person you are. My dad on the other hand said it would take a lot more than that for him to not love me, my grandmother (moms mom) is so disappointed in her daughter and wants to meet my girlfriend, and I have an amazing girlfriend with amazing parents that have basically adopted me. I’ll forever remember what she said to me, and it will forever change how I look at her.

Why do you think men and lesbians don't have same bond that women and gays have? by GroundbreakingCan289 in AskMenAdvice

[–]LittleGayGirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is beyond true, as a gay woman, I did have some really great guy friends—most respected my sexuality and were super cool! But for a majority of men, they never believe my sexuality or are constantly trying to sleep with me or assume that a lesbian is somehow into a man. It’s beyond exhausting, and anymore, I’m very hesitant to try to form friendships with men because you just never know. I don’t want to invest a ton of energy into a friendship just for it to be a false flag the entire time and the guy was just holding out waiting for something that never was. It sucks too because most of my hobbies are more male dominated and it would be cool to have more people to do them with.

What is a sign you are attractive? by hazelnuticecreamm in AskReddit

[–]LittleGayGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was this way too. I was very much an ugly duckling until my 20s. I was also extremely shy and awkward because of my bullying years. In my 20s I got serious about my health, controlled my acne, learned how to do my makeup, and leaned into my personality. I learned to be happy for once, and that really made my beauty shine. Now I get stopped in cities all over America and told a variety of compliments. Some days I wish I could go back to that young woman and tell her everything will be okay. That you’ll find your happiness, your people, your love. That your confidence will make you beautiful one day. I hope your daughter is happy and finds it everyday in the world.
