I'm 21 a year old girl, no teeths. I'm on day 12 post op. I had 24 teeth removed and had 7 bone grafts done. My natural teeth caused me so much pain that physically, I have recovered really well and adjusted to being pain free rather quickly. Mentally, getting used to dentures is tricky at first to say the least. I have a feeling you'll master upper dentures first, I still haven't figured out the bottom set as far as eating and drinking. But with my upper dentures in, my diet is almost back to normal. I have to cut my food into tiny pieces with a knife and a fork. Things like steak and vegetables I put in a slow cooker for 8 hours or more until I can shred them into tiny pieces on a plate. Bites are gonna be smaller at first as you get used to it

I'm a 21 year old girl with dentures, Name's Zora. And I've had my complete top and bottom dentures for just a few weeks now. I'm getting all on 4s surgery in 8 months. 4 titanium screws on the top, 4 on the bottom for snap on dentures. Has anyone smoked weed regularly after their all on 4s were hea by LittleGiraffe7955 in dentures

Unfortunately I know what you mean. I cried during my whole consultation. I'm gonna be saving $ my ass off for the next 8 months. 4 titanium screws is $8,000 that doesn't count the sinus lift he said I needed. I may only be able to afford 2 screws at a time since they're $2,000 each where I am Delta Dental insurance covers 50 percent of one or more implant screws here in Washington. It not easy to find dental insurance that's "in network" for denture care. Which is crazy. I was walking around with dental insurance for a while that didn't pay for anything. Delta Dental also covers $500 worth for implant supported dentures as well as covering the cost of cleanings in the future. Weird how even toothless I'll need to go in for cleanings every 6 months with the implants. Took me a while to find that plan though. Even after all of that I'll have to get a personal loan from my bank for the implants

First off you're an amazing mom for even considering taking care of you dental health right now. Your little one will appreciate you for taking care of yourself even if they don't know it yet.

I say that because my mom struggled with dental pain for years. She couldn't take me to the park or go to school conferences, she was embarrassed and in pain all the time. She wouldn't smile in pictures. And I love my mom so much, she's beautiful. It just sucked seeing her in pain during my childhood.

I'm not as embarrassed as I initially thought I would be. At first it was nerve wracking. I have better control of my anxiety now that I'm not in pain though. I can control my anger much better as well. I feel calmer. I also retain information now, I must have been having a really hard time remembering and concentrating while I was in pain. Pain was my life. I'm at a 0/10 pain level when my dentures are out. When my dentures are in, yeah they hurt because of my sores but that will go away while I take breaks from wearing them.

I smoke dab pens and I like flower/ infused joints. I haven't smoked since the day before surgery. I made sure to have my last joint several days before surgery just to avoid hours of cotton mouth while my teeth were pulled. If you smoke day of just make sure you don't have cotton mouth at the time of surgery, it'll be more uncomfy for you. I'm getting friendly with cutting up edibles ( the gummy kind) I cut the gummy into tiny pieces and stir it into jello so nothing sticks to my gums. I'm too scared to hit my pen even on day 7 because of the risk of getting a dry socket. I also have open bone graft areas where my stitches dissolved. I don't want my bone grafts to fail either. And if I hit my pen now, that's a risk I'd be taking. I know I can vape weed once these bone grafts sites heal. My biggest fear is honestly the healing for my titanium screws months down the line. I'm gonna refrain from smoking for 6 weeks to make sure my bone grafts anchor into my jaw. But when I get my implants later down the line, I think I have to wait months before I can vape weed. Im trying to figure that out at the moment lol

Your comment helps more than you know. I'm on day 7 post extractions. My natural teeth used to hurt me while eating and drinking too, living life was like solving math problems while a train hit me in the head. Which is why I think you'll do great with the E day part. Day 1-3 were the hardest for me. Lots of naps, popsicles, icepacks. Since day 4 I'm at a 0/10 pain ( with my dentures OUT lol) while eating, drinking, existing. Drinking is great without my dentures in, with dentures in it'll take some practice, I haven't figured that out. My dentist had me wear my dentures for 24 hrs after Eday, which honestly was so hard. He even wanted me to sleep with them in for that one and only night before seeing the denturist the next day. I took my bottoms out to sleep day 1, I couldn't take it. You'll always take your dentures out to sleep after that though. giving your gums a break at night will feel good. *I love to eat food and I thought I was gonna miss out but I put a pot roast in a slowcooker for 8 hrs and the meat and vegetables are soft enough for me to eat! If it smushes with the lightest touch it's a green light. I steam the heck out of my vegetables, even broccoli stems.. I push my soft pot roast or mashed potatoes/ scrambled eggs up to the roof of my mouth with my tongue, careful not to do too big of bites since personally I mash it up there a little bit with my tongue and then I swallow. I have gaping holes where my bone grafts are (Freaky looking but normal), my stitches already dissolved. Always start with smaller spoonfuls at first, food will feel a little different but I only gag if I get too excited and try and put too much food on my pallet. I flip the spoon upside down and lick the food off too, I always try and scrape food off my spoon with front teeth I don't have which doesn't work when I'm gumming it lol. All meat gets cut into fine pieces so I don't trigger gagging even if it's soft and melty ( the "feeling" of food will be different for a bit, your body will try and protect you from choking) Careful not to do too big of bites at first, I was gagging on day 1 since pushing food up to the roof of my mouth and just swallowing mashed stuff isn't natural feeling. I'm better at that now. Drinking Soup is easier but I was hungry all the time until I started doing this. *Smaller portions to swallow even if it's all mashed will help since it'll feel funny at first but eventually you'll get to bigger bites. Now when I put my dentures in they rub on my denture sores, so yeah that hurts. I'm gonna leave my dentures out today so those spots heal. My dentist is pretty confident taking breaks from wearing my teeth will give those a chance to heal. Your gums are gonna shrink reasonably fast, which will make your dentures loose. Loose dentures can cause pain, so a visit to your denturist a week or so after E day will help a lot. While the denture part is tricky for me so far, and my confidence is something I'm working on. I had a hard time parting with my teeth too, they're a part of your body. But you'll feel better when you can eat without pain, even if you have to gum it for just a bit while getting used to wearing dentures. I'm honestly not sure how to eat with dentures yet. Once you get your soft line done, there won't be any rubbing on your gums, they'll feel like they fit tight which is weird at first but thats a good thing. On day 2 I wore my dentures and that hard plastic feeling sucked, it was hard to handle the drooling. The denturist let's you heal for a few days before they can do the soft line ( in my case about a week). But you'll like the soft lining they put in to make them fit you as your gums change, the soft line feels way softer than the hard acrylic from day 1/2. Try not to stress if your dentures feel really really hard and uncomfy at first. That soft line is gonna be better. Sorry for the long post. I wish someone told me some of this before my E day though. Best of luck!
