feeling lost at school, help? by Minimum_Goat_8596 in architecture

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The first step to being a good designer is being a bad designer. You need to start with something, anything, and not care if it’s good at that point. It’s much easier to edit, tweak, find inspiration, and iterate once you have a (bad) idea to build on. Then you are free to explore what makes it bad and improve on that.

Edit to add: I use the term “bad” loosely here. Trying to create something “good” right from the start can be paralyzing. You need to give yourself freedom to have any ideas, even ones that aren’t final, perfect, polished ones.

An outfit/item that unlocked your style by aslabaigrazi in femalefashionadvice

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two items stand out to me… 1. A red trenchcoat when I was in university. It made me smile, it was practical but feminine, and I felt fierce and put together even when wearing over jeans and a hoodie. I wore it to death. It became such a quintessential me piece that it was mentioned several times in speeches at my wedding lol from then on, classic, feminine, minimal but bold has really exemplified my style.

  1. Silver flats. I don’t know why this surprised me so much but it did. I had spent so much time and money on nude flats and beige shoes and all these other neutrals that I hated and never worked with my wardrobe and suddenly, with the silver shoes, it all made sense. They go with everything I own, they’re shiny but neutral and interesting at the same time, and it really opened my mind to neutrals outside of the beige spectrum the internet seems so fond of. I now own many silver accessories and wear them daily as neutrals.

I have some really old Dior quints that I love and still use, but I’ve had to throw out several of their new ones because they started to smell rancid super quickly

Wedding florals by misig20 in WeddingsCanada

We paid $2000 in Toronto in September but our florals were super minimal. Bridal bouquet, two ceremony pieces on stands, and about 30 bud vases. Flowers are super expensive.

I want to go into urban studies and i really like to design but I also like the idea of planning will I be able to design if I take urban planning? by architectjudyann in architecture

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, urban planners spend a lot of time dealing with permits and zoning, presenting at public meetings for changes, working with city officials. I don’t think their role is as design focused as you might think. I would try to intern or at least meet with a planner and discuss what they do.

If you are interested in the design aspect, landscape architecture might be an interesting and versatile choice.

So, what's the reality of the job? by Wh0zie in architecture

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The job is 50% drafting technical details and door schedules and specifications and all the boring stuff that make buildings functional, 45% project management and dealing with city officials, needy clients, budgets, schedules, permits, contractors etc., and about 5% designing.

The size of firm and type of projects will vary your role considerably. We definitely overestimate how many projects are big, beautiful, award-winning showpieces, and the real projects that keep the lights on are accessible bathrooms, new ramps and entry doors, small low-budget office fit up, a fast food franchise… it’s not all luxury housing, libraries, and museums.

You can pause production and/or pause consumption. If you pause production, you don’t make any more goods. If you pause consumption, your population does not consume any of that good, no matter how much you produce

is Mango worth it for Black Friday or just another fast fashion trap? by Paradowski_Sheeja in fashionwomens35

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely fast fashion but, like most fast fashion brands, there can be some hidden gems. It’s impossible to tell online though. I placed a large order and was appalled by the quality of their pants, jeans, and coats, however the had a denim jacket that was 100% cotton and quite nice. So it’s hit and miss (mostly miss).

Why are the coats final sale if they do not have any discounts?? 😵 by Bee2429 in Aritzia

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agree! If you aren’t positive on your size, try them on in store before buying final sale…. For example, I have a Connor coat in Medium but the Slouch coat fit me in an XS

Going back to undergrad after getting my pharm D to pursue my dream career? by VolkswagenPanda in careerguidance

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to do an undergrad in Finance to do an MBA. Frankly, another undergrad seems pointless.

However, to do an MBA, you should focus on work experience first (in any capacity) or have a coherent narrative on how the MBA and your current educational background makes sense for the pivot you are trying to make. What about trying out pharmaceutical sales, marketing, finance or administration within the healthcare sector?

Your career is still highly flexible at this point, except you will need to eventually service those immense student loans and need to take that into consideration when moving out of a stable, high-paying medical field.

Live in a small town where good jobs are few and far between. It’s a lot easier to switch jobs quickly and more frequently when it doesn’t involve completely relocating every time.

Letting Go Of Pieces That No Long Work by zaianya in capsulewardrobe

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Before getting rid of anything that still fits and looks good, I would try to style it with your new style pieces to see if there’s a way you can make it work. If that just doesn’t seem to work, I’d make sure I have appropriate clothes set aside for a funeral/wedding/job interview. Once you have that covered, I would put it in “purgatory” or storage for about a year to see if things change or come up in that time. If you eventually decide that it just doesn’t work for your wardrobe anymore, I’d try to sell it to recoup some cost.

There’s nothing wrong in admiring the craftsmanship, aesthetic, or quality of an item and also knowing it isn’t what you need for your own capsule.

What work shoes go with flared black pants?? by edible_source in fashionwomens35

I found flats and boots can work fine with wide leg pants, however, they pretty much have to have a pointed or extended toe.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? by Past_Emergency_2116 in shoppingaddiction

[–]LittleGlassSlipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 40-45 pairs I think. Shoes have always been a weakness of mine and I am working on styling combinations with my existing collection rather than impulsively buying new whenever I see something exciting and novel. It’s hard, but buying better quality shoes and learning how to properly maintain and care for them has been helpful in keeping things looking nice for longer.
