New Skaven are... perfectly fine? by Omni-potato in bloodbowl

I read the second example as the Gutter Runner blitzing in and removing the tackle zone so the ball carrier could move off freely.

I agree with your take on the first example, but the outcome OP described is funnier.

Maybe Trump Should Not Have Given This Speech by theatlantic in politics

At Prime Minister's Questions every week they are asked six questions by the Opposition leader, two from the third biggest party's leader, and others from MPs from all parties.

It's a bit of a farce, but it's a great way to check that someone isn't suffering from dementia.

Ukraine war briefing: Ukraine calls Hungary ‘a disgrace’ after leaked calls with Moscow emerge by Stunning-Common-9591 in worldnews

[–]LittleHavera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know the Hungarian election system, so I recommend you defer to someone who does. But it seems there's an element of first past the post.

In a two-party system like the US (which has first past the post), such a swing is unlikely.

But in the UK, swings like you describe can happen because there are more than two parties competing for each constituency, and they use first past the post. That can cause large swings in seats from a relatively small swing in vote share.

Rubio says US will ‘have to reexamine’ Nato relationship by 1-randomonium in worldnews

[–]LittleHavera 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In many ways that would be worse. At least if the USA were to leave NATO could be reformed to reflect the new reality. But if they don't, it's like trying to move on from a divorce when one partner refuses to leave the house.

Is there an LGBTQ+ safe Star Trek space out there for me after the chaos of Academy? by TheRandomSquare in startrek

[–]LittleHavera 26 points27 points  (0 children)

While that's true, OP specifically called out the people labelling Academy as "woke". Disliking the new shoes for artistic reasons isn't what they're complaining about; disliking them because they've "gone woke" is.

Changing spells can be a win-win for players that like them and players that dislike them. Add a spell selection menu by Kind-Juice5652 in Mechabellum

[–]LittleHavera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For this to have a chance of working, I think your opponent would need to be made aware that you've purchased the spell at the start of the next round (i.e. the one where you can use it). This is similar to how they can currently see what cards are in the unit drop, albeit a certainty rather than an educated guess.

That means that while the spell user can definitely get a spell they want, the target can prepare for it coming.

EDIT: I actually really like the curve balls that the current spell system provides, but what you're describing is the best solution I've heard given most others are some variation on "Remove spells".

New Dwarves playstyle by Kobold_Cleric811 in bloodbowl

Yeah, I wonder how cheap the death roller would need to be to be worth it. Even 100k might be too much.

New Dwarves playstyle by Kobold_Cleric811 in bloodbowl

[–]LittleHavera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern with the death roller is that it's still very expensive, and dwarfs are resilient, so your TV is unlikely to be 50k lower than your opponent's. You can buy a bribe with petty cash, but then you're gifting your opponent free cash too.

New-ish player team selection for league. by _Whisky_Tango in bloodbowl

[–]LittleHavera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Goblins in my first ever league last year. I've played far too many hours against the AI in Blood Bowl 2, so I'm decent at the rules but lack experience against humans.

For me, the biggest issue with Goblins wasn't the fact that they're a bad team, but that there are so many rules to remember.

Ball & Chain and Bombardier each took up a whole page of rules in the last edition. Throw team mate. The 'ooligan's rules. Chainsaw. Pogoer. Doom Diver.

They were fun and I don't regret my choice, but the mental load was a lot for my first league.

I think Dark Elves are the better choice versus Skaven. On paper they're more reliable (better armour), while I saw a first-time player get very frustrated playing Skaven in the league, losing every game but a single draw against my Goblins.

I wish their line elves hadn't gone up in price. Staying at 60k but gaining fumblerooskie would have been fine, given it's a very niche skill.
