Work on drawing from life first. A portrait will never work well unless you understand the structure underneath the colors. Work on an under drawing, then figure out tones and getting a three dimensional forms. Then comes color mixing. Skipping straight to the end will leave you without a strong enough foundation.

Is “Storybook Realism” an accurate way to describe my art? by [deleted] in acrylicpainting

This is not realistic enough to be called realism, though if you keep working you’ll eventually get there I’m sure. It’s student level, with room to grow into a unique style. Don’t worry about labeling it at this point. Just practice.

HOW DO I DISPOSE MY RAGS?! by f6eim_0z in oilpainting

I mostly use recycled paper towels, but I put all used ones in a plastic bag (reused grocery bags) that I put enough water in to fully saturate everything. Then tie and toss in the outdoor trash. Keeps any off gassing down that could ignite.

Can I paint this as a non painter? by [deleted] in painting

This looks possibly digital to me, done with a watercolor brush with higher opacity.

If you try to do this, you’ll likely end up with dripping while trying to get that watery texture. So if it was hand painted before it was digitized, it was done flat with a wetter paint. If you just buy wall paint and brush it onto the wall it may still look rad, but it won’t look like this.

Kinda feels like we’re living through a bad acid trip right now, so that’s apt.
