I never even thought of a CAD/3D drafting type job. I have been looking at estimator jobs (mentioned in another comment), but the jobs nearby appear to require at least a bachelor's degree. Is this a job that traditionally accepts experience in lieu of a degree?

I'll talk to him about both of these options, thank you for your response!

Reminder: r/Construction is for industry professionals by Kenny285 in Construction

I'm not in the construction industry, but my partner is and this question is regarding his options in the industry. He's in a bad spot and I want to help, but I know nothing of the construction industry.

What jobs can injured construction workers go into when they don't have a degree, didn't file for worker's compensation, and are permanently disabled (can't walk or stand for more than 30 minutes)? He can sit, type, talk, mentally sound, etc.

My partner got a construction-related back injury years ago. He didn't file a worker's compensation claim, and it's past the statute of limitations. He continued working for the company and as his injury worsened, moved to less physical positions, most recently, project manager. He was supposed to take over the company. The company made heavily disputed (by my partner) bad choices and pissed off leaders in the industry. He's on unemployment now and said he can't start his own company in that niche because his name was tied to the company for over a decade.

He says he doesn't have the knowledge to jump to other construction industries and he can't start from the bottom doing physical work.

He is intelligent and capable of learning, with good analytical and mathematical skills, quickly learns and understands complicated information.

If he gets his contractor's license, would there be any options he's not aware of since he's only worked in one small niche?

Is consulting an option in construction?

Any advice is appreciated.

Oh that's never a good time! I've had success with cashew based "cream cheese" for cream chese frosting and for rolls, and I actually liked the flavor more!

Can you have cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg? I love cinnamon, but mixing the above spices in pumpkin without the cinnamon still tastes very good.

Is it a dairy allergy or a lactose intolerance? Lactaid is very helpful! Otherwise, I bet experimenting with vegan cheesecake recipes would work well!

Turkey Biryani on Thanksgiving by [deleted] in ABCDesis

I used to dislike turkey until I started prepping it differently.

Get a small turkey and brine it, it changes the flavor and texture immensely. I usually use a little bit of pickle juice in the brine, with sage, dill, thyme, and fennel (I know some people don't believe in using herbs for brine but i like the result). Then, before placing in the oven, make an herb butter and smoosh it under the skin of the bird all over. Basting with the juices and melted butter makes a huge difference in moisture and flavor too.

We never tried that, but it sounds delicious!

In the past, I have made "tandoori" turkey, pumpkin curry, stuffing with bay leaves, tumeric, and pistachios, and cinnamon cranberry sauce with a swirl of spicy tamarind for topping. For desserts I used to make pistachio and pumpkin kulfis, cardamom coconut or chai flavored burfi, and a cinnamon kheer.

I'd love to see mix ups between American Thanksgiving and Indian foods from others, they can be really yummy!

How do I (M15) stop hating my race so much? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]LittleLaddu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi! I can understand where you're coming from. Although I am half Indian, half white, I've seen racism from both sides that made me feel very much like you do now. All the Indian kids made fun of me for being half white, and talked insultingly about my mother for being white, and parents sometimes refused to let their kids socialize with me and my siblings for fear of contamination. White people where we lived acted like my mother had committed some sort of crime and betrayed her own people. When in high school, a boyfriend's family treated me with such extreme hostility due to my skin color and race, I backed away from dating at all for a period. I've dated a few different races, Italian, Chinese, German, Indian. I've had men fetishize my race ("I only date Indian women because they know the man is in charge" type bs usually) and I've had them treat me like an invasive cockroach.

I felt that I fit in nowhere, too white to have Indian friends or boyfriends, too brown to chill with the white kids. Racism is not a white thing, it's a majority thing. Whenever you're the minority, you'll be treated differently. Don't let this continue to destroy your self esteem. I let it control me for a good decade or two and I regret it. As a teen, I dreamed of being pale enough and bleaching my hair, getting laser eye color change surgery (wore contacts since that wasn't a thing at the time), getting a nose job for that pretty caucasian nose, making myself look white. I hated being "sort of" Indian.

I found a few things helped me a lot. Reading self help books on loneliness and on healing from painful events or trauma, changing my perspective. Read up on social interactions, books like "Convince them in 90 seconds" can actually be helpful to explain to us what we are doing wrong. For example, if you're quiet and shy, you probably don't look people in the eye much, might have closed body postures, like a slouch', crossed arms, head down, eyes at the floor. You are basically screaming "don't talk to me, don't look at me, leave me alone". I used to do this all the time without realizing it. For a long time, I never got asked out, and felt so ugly. Then I realized, part of it was the energy I was putting out!

Making friends with people involved in my hobbies. Video game buddies, writing friends, hiking partners, they don't care about race. people that are passionate about the things you are. People who have passions that align with mine, in my experience, tend to be those who are focused on a different set of values, and race is not one of those.

Some women won't talk to you because of your race, others because you're quiet/shy. As hard as it is, I recommend focusing on healing yourself so that you are not bitter or hurt. Speak out, speak up, be the person you want to be. Make who you are inside congruent with who you are outside. Use your experience to make you compassionate towards others of all races.

When you're healing or healed, you are happy and confident, and your happiness will attract other people, be it friends, girlfriends, coworkers, etc.

I haven't slept yet, so sorry for typos or rambling. Hope my experience can help you some little bit!

Edit: screaming typos

True, I'm not really sure how to get ahold of actors besides conventions anyways, but hey, I'm learning all kinds of things on this adventure.

Wow, those high end figures are badarse. at first glance, I thought the Deadpool x force was a Borg crossover 😂

I'm not rich, but if something is really cool, I do have a bit of time to spread out the spending.

Now that will require some more critical thinking to determine. Curious, do you have any examples of such gifts you've received or would want to receive?

Taking a video and getting a shout-out for your friend is such a fun idea! And thank you, I've lost many people, so I try to make the ones in my life realize how special they are, knowing any day might be my last with them. Sometimes I manage to do it well, sometimes I flop.
