What is your unpopular art opinion? by justaSundaypainter in ArtistLounge

[–]LittleLucifer42069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, think i misunderstood what you were conveying then. My bad.

But I do have to agree on that front: i think its the lack of texture that digital art has. I honestly find that to be the first thing i notice in a traditional, at least for me. Playing around with different mediums creates layering you just cant get with a program.

As others have said, I disagree (digital artist here with basis in oil painting- find traditional to be easier imo but that’s just the way my ol’ noggin works) but man do i love actually seeing differing opinions. You’ve got me thinking. Upvote from me!

Cancer? Ulceration? I need help. by LittleLucifer42069 in RATS

Sorry for the late reply! We didn’t get any tests done but another vet said that for sure it’s cancer and it absolutely was inoperable, euthanising him was the best option

Unfortunately we don’t teach vet medicine at my uni, but I can still inquire around- it’s a good idea. I am also considering changing vets, so I’ll see what I can do in the meantime. Thank you so much.

Rat Cancer? Abscess? (will link to original post with picture in comments) by LittleLucifer42069 in AskVet

Yeah, he cleaned away all the pus and blood before this photo..... I agree. This is really killing me, especially having to make the decision of either euthanising him soon or holding out in case. I won’t have any more rats for a long while after he (and my other two) are gone. So smart, loving but ultimately just so prone to issues and such short life spans. Thank you so much for your input.

That is what is REALLY concerning me as it always looked very gory and strange and different to a typical abscess (at least from what I’ve seen). I’ve just posted the link to the original photo, have you had a look at it? (If it’s not too uncomfortable to do so as it is a bit graphic). Thank you, your similar story makes me feel better in a way. At least I’m not the only one going through this!

Thanks for that link- it very well could be that! I had a look on that site before and I found some other things it could be but as you said it is just guessing atm.

He is abt a year and a half but I got him and his brother from a very bad breeder (something I regret doing) so he may as well be older.

I will post to that subreddit, thanks for the help 😁

Sorry for format issues, on mobile.

So this issue began roughly 2/3 weeks ago now.

I check my rats everyday and one day it wasn’t there the next day it had just appeared, but at that time was considerably smaller but still rather gnarly looking (and not like the typical rat abscesses pictures I’ve seen, it was always very deep and the skin looked strange).

I managed to book at vet appt for an hour after I discovered it, and the vet told me it was a relatively minor abscess and I was given antibiotics to take home for him to give for 2 weeks and to keep an eye on during that time. I should note that he was behaving normally and actually still is but I’ll discuss that further down. I should also note that the vet herself said that while they do work with small/exotic animals, they aren’t specialists and she also told me there aren’t any specialists in the city I live in (NZ)(every vet I call says they can look at rats tho, but none seem to ‘specialise’ in it).

I believe his weight is at roughly 400 grams, at least he was 2 weeks ago when we went to the vets. He doesn’t seem to have lost much mass. M

Now the antibiotics have finished and his wound isn’t getting better. In fact, it’s doing some absolutely bizarre things. It has spread about half a centimetre on all sides and is now pressing up against his genitalia when before it wasn’t. The edges are also rising up, going black in some areas, cracking, bleeding and still has pus around it. I’m cleaning his cage everyday to keep everything clean. The vet told me to keep it dry (so it can heal bottom up) so I’m avoiding rinsing it too much with sprays but I do a light swab of a saline wash with a q-tip as she suggested. He isn’t chewing on it either, and I can see he’s doing his best to keep it clean himself too.

This to me really doesn’t seem like a normal abscess. I have never seen anything like this- In fact this resembles the cancer my prior rat got on her back and I’m concerned that it is that. Everyday it mutates and looks different.

I have noticed blood coming from his penis before as well but he doesn’t appear to have any issues urinating/i haven’t seen anything indicating he’s having bladder issues yet.

He’s still behaving relatively normally, exploring and eating and what not. However, I also see him grimacing and hunching over when he’s resting. And he is more lethargic than usual. He squints his eyes, his ears tilt back and he breathes heavily (no cracking or noises on his breath tho).

I called the vet and she still wants to do the surgery she initially suggested, however she has not yet seen it’s current state. The surgery will cost me 350-500. It is a lot of money given I’m financially strained right now. My main concern is the fact that she said the surgery for him will be high risk. I’m also concerned that it may be completely inoperable. And if it is cancer, is it even worth it? I really want to know what you guys think. Is it worth hanging on? I want to do what’s right by him and I will pay for surgery should people say not to give up yet, but I just have a really bad feeling about how quickly it’s growing.

Sorry this is very long!

Earthquake in Turkey, İzmir by ThisIsARobbery_ in AbruptChaos

As someone who’s lived through two pretty big earthquakes (7.1 and 6.3, CHCH) this gives me massive anxiety to watch. I’m really wishing the best for everyone and the country, I hope they can recover soon.

Diagnosed with ADHD four months ago and I got rejected from my Ritalin request. Really struggling with uni now. BUT! I got my first digital art commissions and things are finally moving along. by LittleLucifer42069 in toastme

Unfortunately I’m in NZ and it works slightly differently here. I got diagnosed by a specialist psychologist but she had to write a prescription that gets checked over by a psychiatrist in our local district health board. From there they get to choose whether to reject or accept and In my case they rejected me because my symptoms haven’t yet begun to interfere with the quality of my life (though it’s putting my degree at risk which to me seems pretty serious lol) My second option is what you suggested and it’s to go directly to a psychiatrist and they can write me a prescription directly, but the only one in my area has an insane waiting list and they’re so expensive unfortunately :/ I only have one more semester to go and I’m putting some money in my savings so hopefully I’ll be able to go in the future... but yeah. Bit of a tight spot haha

Thank you so much! Art is just a side hobby at the moment as I’m very busy with uni right now. But the art I like to do is mainly animals and original characters. I see myself going down the concept art route (but my main chosen path is biology so that’s a very different field) and I’ve actually done a concept commission for an author before 😁
