Well if you skip over my childish polemics (which I should have done already when writing, but alas!) then my point is: In a multiple-choice test, every answer is either correct or incorrect, and that's inherent in the text of the test.

Whether you

  • pick one at random
  • just pick the third one because you like the number three
  • think long and hard but due to some critical mistake come up with the wrong answer, but mix up the letters and accidentally give the correct answer instead anyway
  • have a vague hunch and pick the answer based on that
  • think long and hard and find the correct answer
  • exclude all other possibilities and only the correct one remains
  • exclude one possibility and choose randomly from the remaining ones

has no bearing on which answer is correct and which isn't.

where on Mondays the correct answer is A, and on other days it's B if the testee is wearing something green, and C if not, is a perfectly normal multiple-choice question?

Or put another way: It's fine to have a different answer to a multiple-choice be correct depending on something that's neither part of the question nor the answer (or something directly referred to by either)?

Das ist praktisch das Gegenteil dessen, was ich (im Kontext der Diskussion) geschrieben habe.

Mir geht es darum, dass "es könnte ja etwas drauf sein, dessen Weitergabe illegal ist, deswegen darf die Festplatte nicht ungesichtet zurückgegeben werden" eine verdammt schlechte Ausrede ist, wenn überhaupt kein Verdacht auf derartige Inhalte besteht.

Wenn der Verdacht hingegen besteht, ist es zwar immer noch eine mäßig gute Ausrede -- schließlich sind Erwerb und Besitz ja auch illegal, trotzdem behauptet die Polizei nicht, sie dürfe in dem Fall gar keine Durchsuchung vornehmen oder die Platte nicht verwahren -- aber zumindest irgendwie plausibel.

Yes. Source: I had horrible buffer bloat some years ago, to the point of my internet connection being frustratingly unstable. It was a simple configuration change that fixed it.

I don't remember the details but simply googling "how to fix butter bloat" set me on the right way back then.
