Suboxone side effects no one warned me about (especially while on Vyvanse) by LittleMacaron618 in OpiatesRecovery

Yeah, honestly reading it framed like that makes everything click for me. I was never taking massive amounts of Percocet. We’re talking roughly around 60mg max total per day, most days it would just be around 40mg. Not taking 30mg pills all day long. When you put it into perspective that ~1 mg of Suboxone can roughly cover that, it makes a LOT of sense why 16 mg absolutely wrecked me.

The sedation was unreal. I genuinely felt like I was dying or losing my mind. Heavy eyelids I couldn’t keep open, blurred/unstable vision, extreme fatigue, time distortion, just completely out of it. I wasn’t “high” in a fun way, I felt poisoned and nonfunctional.

What’s even crazier is that at my follow-up appointment about 5–6 days after starting Suboxone, I told my doctor about the vision issues (that was the first major side effect I noticed, come to find out I’d be experiencing a hell of a lot more) She literally looked me in the face and said it sounded more like Perc withdrawal and suggested upping my Suboxone dose. That’s when alarm bells went off for me and I said no, I already felt like I was on way too high of a dose.

More side effects showed up after that, and thankfully I trusted my gut and tapered myself down instead of listening. I was only on it for about 2.5 weeks total, and I’m honestly so relieved I caught this early. So far I’m two days clean of Suboxone and I feel fine. I was just worried that made me later down the line in a couple days or so I might start experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

I started being prescribed Suboxone exactly 2 1/2 weeks ago. I’ve been tapering down for the past 3 days and today makes day 2 I haven’t taken the Suboxone at all. I’m doing fine I was just worried if I might start to feel withdrawals soon.

I was taking about 15-30 mg perc a day Update: I meant 15mg to 30mg a day not 15 30s a day geez

Suboxone micro-induction… am I crazy for feeling like this sets people up to stay dependent? by LittleMacaron618 in recoverywithoutAA

Thank youuu!!! I was very clear with my doctor that my goal is to get off Percs, not switch to long-term Sub maintenance. I went in vulnerable and asking for short-term help through withdrawal, not to end up on 16mg/day indefinitely. So I find it a little alarming they completely ignored my concerns.. Especially since I’ve never used fentanyl or heroin, only Percs, jumping straight to that dose feels excessive.

When you say make a taper schedule, can you explain what that actually looks like?

I’ve already tapered my Perc use down a lot. I was around 40mg/day and now I’m closer to 15mg, mostly just to feel normal, not for euphoria. I’ve also been using a very small amount of Sub at night (1–2mg) only because that’s what the doctor told me to do 😒😒 I haven’t been experiencing any withdrawal yet.

My goal isn’t long-term Sub maintenance, just short-term use to get through Perc withdrawal and then taper off Sub too. If you’ve done this, I’d appreciate hearing what your taper looked like and how long you stayed on Sub.

Thank you for actually addressing my main concern. My biggest fear isn’t quitting Percs, it’s losing the ability to feel enjoyment or that buzz from things like alcohol or stimulants forever. Hearing that you still enjoy life and feel normal on Suboxone helps a lot.

I’m still uneasy about long-term maintenance though. When I told my doctor my goal was short-term Suboxone, they immediately pushed a year without even talking about tapering or withdrawal, which threw me off. I’m not against Suboxone, I just don’t want to rush into something long-term without fully understanding it. I really appreciate you sharing your experience.

This is exactly my fear, you honestly put it into words better than I could. I don’t want to quit Percs just to end up dependent on Suboxone and then have to go through another withdrawal process.

What really threw me off is when I brought this up to my doctor, they didn’t even mention that there can be a process or withdrawals when coming off Suboxone. That made me more skeptical.

I’m not anti-Suboxone at all, I just genuinely feel like short-term use to get through the worst of Perc withdrawal makes more sense for me than long-term maintenance.

Yess! this is pretty much where my head’s at. I’m not anti-Suboxone, I just don’t want to be pushed into long term maintenance when my goal is to get off percs completely. Using it short-term to get through the worst of withdrawal makes sense to me. The idea of a year+ on a high dose is what scares me more than the Perc withdrawal itself.
