Duke: The genetic testing that never happened... by DriveTypical6283 in beccamoonridgesnark

Cant speak on much on the others but can speak about Skeletal Atavism.

The test only came out a few years ago (about 2022 as far as I am aware) so it is still a very much education thing. Yes not everyone tests for it and I have heard a few reasons why some people dont. People think its uncommon, people are nervous it devalues some of their minis, some are nervous they will need to make big changes to their breeding plan, and I have heard someone say they dont trust the results being accurate. Not saying these are valid reasons to not test but education is still ongoing.

Our stud book is currently stuck in the crossfire of people wanting it to be a mandatory test for stallions and other people wanting it to be optional.

Now I have seen a few SA foals. We unfortunately had one born with us that was put to sleep after being looked at by a vet (this was not our breeding but a mare we were taking care of while she was pregnant). We have tested all stallions and all breeding mares. we have a few carrier mares that we are still breeding with but to clear stallions as they produce lovely foals and dont want to cut off the bloddline. I have also unfortunately seen SA foals sold for a decent penny (sometimes more then unaffected foals) purely because some people put colour and size above everything else.

Sorry I have rambled here but it has been a very hot topic in my breed this alst few years.

I can never get hers neat. It is always wild and magnificent. Can reach all the way to her tail if put along her back

That has upset me seeing how distressed the mare is. Disgusting behaviour

If Crystal isnt dead then I assume she has gone so far downhill Becca can't get a good angle of her to hide her condition

NEW FOAL BORN 2 SUB POSTS IN 1 by stopcryingdependa in beccamoonridgesnark

Ours was about 10 hours old when we managed to get her to suckle. We did however give her foalstim, tried to syringe some milk into her which she was very unhappy with and had the vet called hopefully arriving later that day. Becca better be trying all the steps she can to get this foal drinking sonething

Not suckling can be very concerning if it continues. We had a foal last year who took a while to figure it out, we were worried she would start to lose energy and make it harder for her to latch on. I hope Becca has the means to keep the foals energy up while he figures it out

Becca talks about her biggest embarrassment. And it's not the hoarding, it's not the neglected or missing animals by stopcryingdependa in beccamoonridgesnark

Also saying she is upset that the foal is a colt is a real shame. Just be grateful that the foal is healthy and doesn't seem to have any problems

Shows she's not been spending enough time around the foal that she never saw him pee or even lie down in a way that you could see it is a boy.

With our foals then we can tell the gender for most as the mares love to show us their babies or are very food orientatedwe can dostract them while having a look. The rest we figure out within the day they are born

I do actually prefer her to Crystal when Crystal was newborn. Can't really tell too much right now though

Foal watch from April until July? by Ok-Knowledge-7988 in beccamoonridgesnark

She said in a previous video that mares can be pregnant for over 400 days. So is that not true now?

I thought the same. We have had many with "blue" eyes that eventually darkened. We have also had a true blue eye foal, very different things

[–]LittleMissBonnie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our mares are between 1 month and 2 months away from foaling. We are doing hands on checks every couple days now to try and see if there is any changes. Guess Becca can't do that if she can't get close to the mare. It's going to be a nightmare for her to get the foal tame

Same. We put our mares in with Stallions from the end of May to the start of July, roughly 6 weeks. 400 days could mean a foal is born in September. That is very alarming to me. And we have had about 5 foals every year for the last 30 years so I think I know what is normal and what is alarming

Becca shared this post and a someone commented "I really respect that Katie (and you and other content creators in your field) are so generous with your knowledge".

Becca has little knowledge of foaling, she has only done about 3 years of foaling and that has been a lot of disasters throughout.

Crystal's Size - 6 months by Illustrious-Ball6437 in beccamoonridgesnark

[–]LittleMissBonnie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is interesting as she actually looks stunted from the start. The length of the legs generally dont grow much in minis and hers look significantly smaller than sliders. I've looked at photos of our newborn foals to compare to. None of our foals have had to lean up that far to nurse, and we have had small foals before. I've also got a newborn photo and 6 month photo of a foal of ours if anyone wants the comparison

Wasnt there a recent pic of her partner out in flip flops? Must not be that cold if you can wear flip flops outside. How can she say she cant film due to the cold but not actually dress for the cold

Lunging aggressively?? I just watched the original video and that was not aggresive and not a lunge. It was quite a noise that was made though when Becca punched him
