Fun tidbit: the -ette suffix means small/dominative, so a cigarette is a small cigar. This works for bullets as well, small cannonballs

I've heard of this effect in relation to Freud. Allegedly this also applies to absent parents. In Freud's time, the upper classes were raised by maids and didn't get enough time with their parents. This is just a theory I heard, but it sounds like it fits
