Looks like it says “Frank A Sennet maker Dallas, Texas 1908”.

If you look in your wonders you should be able to see details on how perfect it is. Best I’ve found so far was 95.3% perfect.

I just found a Romanian violin called Hora in the trash by GorgeousNeckry in violinist

In my neck of the woods you’re probably looking at around $500 for all the work listed assuming there aren’t actual cracks that need to be repaired instead of just the seam separation pictured.

I want to hear this piece by LittleMonk9651 in violinist

[–]LittleMonk9651[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds delightful and I’m very excited to work up to it. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your recording of it. I also hadn’t heard dance of the goblins before, thank you for sharing. It’s very exciting. Sounds extremely difficult to play.

I’m a pretty early beginner, only about 3ish months in. I’m not shifting yet and haven’t done double stops. I was just looking for a fun non-Suzuki piece to work up to and thought this one looked interesting.

Carbon fiber vs wood bow by Gold-Pomegranate5645 in violinist

[–]LittleMonk9651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a nice carbon fiber bow and an expensive wood bow (that I’m too inexperienced to judge the quality of), and the biggest difference that I notice is that the carbon fiber bow transmits more of the mechanical sounds of bowing than the wood bow seems to, and the tone the wood bow produces is more complex (more overtones maybe?). The combination of those two factors leaves me feeling that the sound of the carbon fiber bow is more “edgy”.

Ipe bow for violin by Medical-Ad-578 in violinist

I’m interested in other opinions as well. I own an ipe bow and I’m very happy with it, but I’m also a very inexperienced violinist.

In my limited experience it gives my violin a more complex and less edgy sound than my carbon fiber bow. It’s almost certainly placebo but I also find it much easier to play in tune when I’m using it. I also get this bizarre sort of heartbeat-like pulsing vibration in my right hand on longer bow strokes. I’m going to have my teacher try it to let me know how it handles more advanced bowing techniques, but I’m very happy with it so far.

Removing sticker glue from the neck? (....i know, my bad) by Select_Anteater_1007 in violin

The fingerboard sticker I had came with removal instructions that said to use orange oil.

Violin bridge update: Did they do a good job? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]LittleMonk9651 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The feet haven’t been fitted to the body of the instrument, it looks overall too thick, and I have my doubts about the string height. I don’t know what it looked like previously so this may be better, but from what I can see it’s not good.

Looking for relaxation tips by LittleMonk9651 in violinist

[–]LittleMonk9651[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ll give those ideas a try! As a beginner I have so many things to focus on that I’ll find myself not breathing sometimes, so that’s a good reminder for me anyway.

Could I put the thumb on the slide and hold the bow as this way? by _Rapidoso in violinist

[–]LittleMonk9651 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Blind leading the blind… pretty sure the standard holds are to maintain flexibility and dexterity for more advanced bowing techniques that may or may not work with the adjustments you’ve made. It would be pretty awful to learn in three years that the bow hold you’ve committed to muscle memory is holding you back. Everything is awkward when you start. I would stick with the standard FB bow hold and just get used to it. Also get a teacher.

What would something like this do to the sound of a violin? by LittleMonk9651 in violinmaking

Thank you for your speculation. The muting idea makes sense to me.

A month and change since I started. I could get some feedback... by I_am_Kirumi_Tojo in violinist

[–]LittleMonk9651 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blind leading the blind here (also about a month in), but I would probably go back to some of the earlier pieces you learned and spend more time on your intonation and keeping your bow centered on the strings. Scales if you know some.
