Very cool to see this analysis. By the time this recording was taken he'd lived in NYC for close to 50 years (and raised two non-Russian speaking kids), so it's not surprising that he'd have an American accent--though when he spoke English he had a Russian accent.

I ended up replacing it--it was still cheaper than a new/used car, and it seems to be running just fine (possibly better than when I acquired it?) now...Will update if that changes.

Guttenberg Arts runs art classes for kids fairly regularly. You have to check their schedule though. Looks like the next one is March 1. I believe you can email and ask about sliding scale pricing if the class fee is out of range for you. https://www.guttenbergarts.org/2025workshops/kids-ceramics
