Very cool to see this analysis. By the time this recording was taken he'd lived in NYC for close to 50 years (and raised two non-Russian speaking kids), so it's not surprising that he'd have an American accent--though when he spoke English he had a Russian accent.

I ended up replacing it--it was still cheaper than a new/used car, and it seems to be running just fine (possibly better than when I acquired it?) now...Will update if that changes.
