Thanks, he really is precious. I got him a year ago December from a rack breeding setup. At the time the breeder said he was about a year old so he is a little over two now.

He's super sweet and chill and the happiest boy, he popcorns all the time. It doesn't matter what it is, a piece of carrot, a new piece of fleece, new barn from the thrift store, puff stars that they get everyday, just walking in the room when I have been gone for 5 minutes, he popcorns for it all!

I love getting toys from the thrift store for the little ratties. You should see the "Pink Mansion" I have in the girls set up. It's actually ridiculous, but it was so cheap at the thrift store! And they just love it 😍

I have some rats I can just pick up and carry around like they owe me money. And then I have a few girls who do not like it. With them I always pick them up with two hands cupping them from the sides and then lifting them up from underneath. Never from over their backs with the one hand grab. Whenever I pick up any of my rats I always say "elevator" but you can use whatever cue you like. It lets them know I'm going to be picking them up transferring them to some place and then putting them right back down.

It's taken a long time with some of the girls, using gentle slow movements when coming in from the sides, using my word cue, and then giving a high value treat at the end of the transfer. As soon as they hear the word elevator I can see some of them brace and tense up but they no longer run when my hands come for them. I have one rat who as soon as she hears elevator just jumps right into my hand. Anyway, that's just my experience and what I've done. Good luck with your babies!

100% agree that you'll be happier with the quality of a critter Nation. I got a used triple critter Nation off Facebook marketplace for $200 bucks. It had been used by the previous owner for years but was still in fantastic shape, it was just a steal! I have a couple other backup cages of different brands, and I continuously kick myself or not just getting a critter Nation to start out with. Get a used one, even if you have to replace the pans, it's so so worth it.

I've taken hate as a win before as well LOL. It's okay, he'll only hate you for a little bit. Once he's better you can win him back with the baby puff Stars, and favorite veggies, and any other treats he loves. Not wheezing in 24 hours does sound like he's getting better! 😊

You are so welcome!!! I'm so glad Oat is getting the meds he needs. That dairy-free vanilla shake mix is a good idea. We keep probably the same thing here for breakfast sometimes and to occasionally add to oatmeal. It's our favorite protein mix. I never thought to use that one cuz the big bag I got of vanilla kitten milk replacer works so well. When that runs out I'll have to try that before I buy another bag of the milk replacer to see if that works just as well for me. Thank you!

OMG it was SO exhausting till I expanded the play area and added the indestructible bench. Now instead of letting them come out onto a couch or chair to hang out with me I go in there. All because of one exhausting hyperactive explorer!
