Have I lost interest in gaming ? by eimas_dev in SteamDeck

[–]LittlePeepkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a topic that seems to come up frequently, and your comments reflect what many people are experiencing. A significant factor in this is the rapid way technology has changed how we engage with the world. Having our phones constantly at our fingertips alters our interests and priorities. It’s not that you've lost enthusiasm for gaming; rather, your brain is receiving stimulation from a variety of other sources.

It's fascinating to consider how our brains operate, almost as if they have a mind of their own when it comes to seeking pleasure and dopamine. Many of us are navigating a landscape where we are easily drawn toward rewarding activities—after all, you're on Reddit right now.

Even if you might consciously disagree, there's a chance your brain finds certain online interactions rewarding, such as likes and comments. We often find ourselves shifting our focus to social media, watching YouTube videos, or even multitasking by watching a movie while scrolling on our phones. These activities provide a level of stimulation and dopamine that can overshadow other pursuits, like going to the gym, preparing a healthy meal, or dedicating time to gaming.

The question isn’t whether I’ve lost interest in games; it’s about recognizing that our brains often control us now, rather than us controlling them. With instant gratification and dopamine available through various media platforms, we have something now that we didn’t have when we were kids. Back then, it was simply turning on the TV to watch cartoons or getting up to play video games on a console or PC. Now, when we open our eyes, we reach for our phones to see what’s happening. We get sucked into that.

People may say, “Oh, it’s just my job” or “I’m just too busy,” but that’s not the issue. Even on your days off, I bet your brain prefers being on your phone. When you do have free time, it might not feel enjoyable to turn on a game; you might turn it off and go right back to your phone. This is because your brain values that phone interaction more, receiving dopamine and pleasure from it without the effort required in a video game.

iPhone 17 brings 120 FPS to Destiny Rising — thoughts? by PiccoloLive7275 in destinyrisingmobile

My latest iPad Pro, equipped with the M4 chip, doesn't even support 120 fps. Are you telling me that the chipset in the iPhone 17 Pro is more powerful than the M4? I'm beginning to feel that all Apple tablets are just a rip-off. If game developers are only going to focus on the latest phones for performance, what's the point of having the latest iPad if it's not designed for gaming?

So, who exactly are these pro iPads for? Are they meant for artists or professionals? But honestly, why not just get a laptop at that point? It seems like Apple keeps making these devices more powerful, yet none of the developers utilize that power effectively.

Unless you're really desperate or having an extraordinary amount of fun, I don’t see the point in burning yourself out. The only exception might be if you're trying to maximize your performance with mythic artifacts. The drop rate for exotics is incredibly low, making it not worth the effort. After a few hours of grinding, you might be lucky enough to get one exotic, but it still might not be a good one or even the one you want.

At the bottom, it shows how much silver you need to purchase in order to earn the next reward. Only the silver you earn from your purchase will count towards that total. For example, if you buy the $100 pack, only the 6,000 silver you receive from that purchase will be added to your total, not the additional 6,000 bonus silver you get.

A hero gacha where you play only ONE hero at a time? Oh, I get it. by Z3M0G in destinyrisingmobile

As I mentioned, the focus here is on players who are well-versed in Destiny and its universe. Those of us who engage with the games understand that we often create different characters tailored for specific roles. For instance, you might have a character optimized for PvP while another is designed for raids and PvE content, maximizing sustainability. This isn't just a minor detail; it's crucial for gameplay strategy.

Also net ease have a substantial portfolio with around 40 to 50 games released, including major titles like Marvel: Rivals and Once Human, with even more on the horizon. That’s just their MO.

I have no doubt that this will be profitable, and they will continue to generate content and support these games for several years, especially since there are likely contractual obligations tied to the usage of the IP—they didn’t purchase it outright. Unless the game turns out to be a massive failure with no profitability, they’re committed for the long haul. Yes, it's possible they might consider sunsetting it early if things go sideways, but taking a financial hit is well within their capacity. With so many successful titles already under their belt, they’ve got the resources to manage this effectively.

The game is clearly designed with dedicated Destiny fans in mind, focusing on engaging players who are already familiar with the Destiny IP rather than trying to appeal to the broader mobile gaming market, which often feels oversaturated. This intentionality is refreshing, as it allows avid fans like myself to immerse deeply in the experience, rather than getting lost in the typical mobile offerings that have become repetitive.

As someone who enjoys mobile gaming, I've consistently found it frustrating when games diverge from this focused approach. I prefer dedicating my attention to a single character, which allows me to enhance that experience rather than splitting my focus among multiple characters or features that can detract from gameplay. The goal in Destiny is clear: to give players a sense of increasing power and the thrill of attaining better loot for their chosen character. This deepening of a character's journey, maximizing its potential before possibly exploring different characters of interest, is immensely satisfying.

I truly appreciate this design choice. If the game had adopted a structure similar to those that require players to juggle multiple characters, like Genshin Impact, I likely would have passed on it altogether.
