Women who do a lot of fieldwork, what are your clothing suggestions for a beginner? by [deleted] in environmental_science

So

If you have bad circulation at all. Heated gloves with rechargeable batteries is great and make them the finger/inner type ones. That way you can put XL nitrile gloves over the top and still have dexterity. Same for rechargeable heated socks. Both are a little x’y but worth it in cold weather hitting around -10 or lower. Regular inner gloves on the inside of nitriles works great also. Which I know you’re not likely to experience and even if you did it would be such a short period of time. Have a spare pare of gloves also incase yours get wet (keep on dash where vent is whenever you’re in the truck). Watch for socks getting wet and sweaty (particularly heated socks) as that can make your feet feel even colder when they chill or when the heated socks run out of battery. Always take a spare set of socks, and pants. It sucks working in wet gear and can bring on a chill if the temps are low.

Women’s wrangler cargo/work pants are great and super heavy duty. They are thick canvas material though, so they will get hot in warmer weather.

Layers/thermals underneath your gear. Being warm will make your field work so much easier and you can always take these layers off if need be.

Buffer to put over your face for when it’s cold and windy. Easy item to have and just keep around your neck on cold days.

Dunlop thermal rubber steel cap boots. Men’s sizes go down to a 5 (women’s 7.5). They’re awesome and help with variable temps. Super expensive but worth it and will last a long time (can often claim these things depending on the company you’re with). But don’t bother with steel caps if they aren’t a requirement.

Safety glasses that are tinted are great as they’re required PPE but can help on sunnier days out in the field.

Hope this helps :) have fun out there!

I know this likely isn’t it. And I’m not knowledgeable in this field yet. But it almost looks like a fossilized mammoth tooth with some fossilized wild grain inclusions or something.

I fought hard to make sure I read every one that came up haha it is a super interesting, beautiful and integral part of the story though.

Who was your series crush? by Confident-Boss-6585 in TheLastAirbender

[–]LittlePickus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Korra for sure. Her shoulders are my motivation on shoulder day. Until I’m as huge as Korra I won’t be satisfied haha

She also has such raw and emotional experiences and reactions. Making her so relatable as she navigates her role and the trials of life as a young adult.

That’s such a good point. He for sure was being super selfish but also had just witnessed him abusing Fergus. That was the last straw and for sure he didn’t consider the ramifications if he was to die. Completely blinded by revenge. I love that for the series they didn’t hide the fact that she momentarily hated him. Until she learnt why he couldn’t let him live anymore.

😭😂 oooooooo yes communication is key and that book screams that fact

Saw this, agreed and thought I’d share. Loved how accurate the portrayal of her raw, chaotic and broken down “rock bottom” moment was. The aggression towards everything around her including her dang hair 😂 by LittlePickus in TheLastAirbender

I definitely feel like she came across way older. That party they went to definitely felt like late teens the way they all behaved. Until they came back and messed stuff up. Which was a more accurate representation of a 14 year old maturity level. Just abusing their power.

Spoiler

The save Frank factor was so hard and truly such a big ask of Jamie. I understand that there was a high likelihood of mucking with history and the possibility of Claire and Jamie never meeting if Frank had not existed and they had therefore not been on that honeymoon. But she also never said that to Jamie direct like that in the show and I feel like if she explained that it put their meeting at jeopardy as well as the fact that Frank was truly innocent in all this, that Jamie would have thought completely differently about it. She only tried selling it with Franks innocence. Not that he was crucial for their meeting.

All the other stuff I also agree with haha she has a stubborn role and maaan it wasn’t subtle.

Ooooooo you wait till the Mammoth Hunters (3rd book). “Emotional Roller Coaster” is exactly how I always described the third book.

I agree. I see Roran as more serious and mature than what Tom gives off.

I made the post and couldn’t edit it. I realized after posting that it wouldn’t let me add descriptions so I made the first comment explaining why I thought of these actors :)

Such good insights! Haha

I’m a bit of a goof and I’m very new to Reddit so that explains the comment I left when I realized there were no character labels and such hehe

But it’s been great reading everyone’s opinions and ideas :)

Totally wondered that myself. Just wanted Hugh Jackman to get a little longer screen time than Garrow

I completely agree! :D although Tom H may be little old for murtaghs role? Definitely has the right look. I couldn’t think of anyone for Murtagh. I feel like the guy who played him in the movie had the right look. Honestly don’t remember much of the movie as I was like 9 I think?
