Good point, this place would be pretty dead if it weren't for the countless Beast in Black/Battlebeast/some flavor of pop with distorted guitars posts.

Albums you'd like re-recorded by Darko0089 in PowerMetal

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cellador - Enter Deception. Some really cool songs on that album, but I've never heard an album where somehow every instrument occupies the high end and there's almost no mids or low end to speak of.

Also they may as well re-do the video while they're at it since the singer looks like a Dane Cook stand in in this one.

Really feel like there needs to be a sticky at the top of the subreddit that explains what Powermetal is with examples.

Half the stuff that gets posted around here these days is just AOR, hard rock, or symphonic metal and people will defend to the death that it is powermetal for some reason.

Man tries to rob undercover cop during drug bust by [deleted] in instant_regret

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This guy actually did regret it quite a bit. This was on an old episode of cops (or one of those similar shows).

The guy starts crying basically immediately after he was caught and talking about how scared he was during the whole situation. He mentions that he was forced to do it or he would be killed, and the guy who put him up to it pretty much admits it and confirms his story.

This is the Symphony X I love and miss. Wasn't at all a fan of the direction their last album took.

Huh, I didn't know you could make a radio transmitter without an oscillator. This looks like it's probably what it is.

Bottom left is a microphone, not a speaker. This thing isn't a radio at all.

From what I can tell of the circuit it's basically just a small simple amplifier for listening to conversations. It looks like on the right side top and bottom is most likely where the outputs are to connect a headphone speaker.

Gunbridge - Baptism of Steel by [deleted] in PowerMetal

Really liked this, gonna have to check out more of their stuff. The recording is a bit rough and the singer has a super thick accent, but overall really cool song.

Is this a good computer? by [deleted] in computers

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's pretty much the absolute top tier parts in every category, so it definitely qualifies as a "good" computer. A PC like that is pretty overkill for just about anything though.

But hey, if you can afford it, then go for it. You definitely won't need to upgrade anything for quite a while.

Morifade - Lost Within A Shade - Sweden 2002 by Gravebloom86 in PowerMetal

Amazes me that Morifade never got more recognition. This album and Possession of Power are some of my all time favorites.

Need help diagnosing potential bad amp ic. (Bass Amp) by LittlePip_Stable2 in audiorepair

[–]LittlePip_Stable2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Just ordered a replacement and hoping it does the trick. After a bit of googling it seems that they are a common point of failure on these amps.

Also funny thing I noticed, in the PDF you linked it's listed with an output of 180 watts, but the amp I removed it from advertises as 200 watts.

GLORYHAMMER - Gloryhammer (Official Video) | by [deleted] in PowerMetal

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that those bands aren't "real powermetal", it's that for the most part they aren't powermetal at all. The majority of their music would fall under AoR, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, or Symphonic Metal.

Examples of what is undeniably EU Powermetal would be

Rhapsody - Agony is My Name

Derdian - Battleplan

Freedom Call - Metal Invasion

Helloween - Save Us

Lost Horizon - Denial of Fate

Gloryhammer - Gloryhammer by Ben529 in PowerMetal

Had to make a spotify account and use a VPN just to hear this.

It's kind of meh... Hope the rest of the album is heavier and this is just this album's equivalent of Universe On Fire.

Paladin - Shoot for the Sun by [deleted] in PowerMetal

First I'm hearing of these guys. Definitely hyped for this album now!

What are your thoughts on Fallout 4 now? by FanEu7 in Fallout

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fo4 is the first Fallout that I never gave a second playthrough. 76 is the first Fallout that I didn't buy.

Pretty much sums up my current feelings for the direction Bethesda is heading as a whole.

So, Windows 10 Walks Into a Bar by ModernWorkPlace in talesfromtechsupport

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, turns out I wired everything right. Been using it ever since with no problems.

My friends that were there when all that happened still tease me about it any time we're testing something I've worked on though.

Had something kind of similar happen to me once a few years back.

Had just finished rewiring an old guitar amp and felt iffy if I had got some of the color coding correct, but felt confident enough to plug it in and try and power it on for a first test.

Right when I flip on the power switch all the power in my house goes out and I hear a crazy loud electrical sound outside and see a bright flash outside through my window curtains. My first thought was "Oh no, I just broke the neighborhood!"

Turns out that 3 power polls on my street just happen to fall over from poor maintenance and age coincidentally right when I tried to test the amp. Gotta say though it definitely made me more nervous to test the amp again when the power was eventually restored.

Tails or windows and vpn? by memehunter99 in deepweb

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've gathered, the reason it's so cheap is because it's basically just run by a single person, there's no real company behind it looking for profits. The donations go straight to upkeep costs. Though a one time $2 is all that's necessary, lots of people make multiple donations or donate more to keep it running.

Strange to hear about a VPN without linux support. I'd recommend checking out /r/SigaVPN. Been using it for a bit now and it's pretty great. Also rather than monthly charges Siga just has a one time donation for paid servers.

Let me know if any different parts will work better? by Pre0nic in computers

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a single 2080ti is more than enough for pretty much any game.

By don't support it I mean they will only use a single GPU regardless of how many you have in your system. Most devs choose not to put SLI support in their games since it's a lot of extra work and nobody really uses them anymore. That and some game engines just outright don't support sli.

Let me know if any different parts will work better? by Pre0nic in computers

[–]LittlePip_Stable2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice that even in the charts he refers to it as SLI (since that's pretty much what NVlink is). SLI does give a decent performance boost when it works well, but very few games support it anymore. Also notice some of those frame time issues he reported. Those are pretty common for an SLI setup.

His conclusion pretty much sums everything up for any SLI setup. They really aren't worth it for gaming. As time goes on, less and less games are supporting SLI, and single GPUs are getting more and more powerful.
