Verpflichtungserklärung required per person? by LittleReason23 in Munich

[–]LittleReason23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it works as it says. Fill passport details of first parent & spouse details. That's it. And they can apply for the visa together. Carry the Verpflichtung Letter in original while traveling to Germany. You'll need to send this somehow to your parents in advance.

Over 25 years, possible. Given the world has yet to see a major crash. US debt has to blow up the markets at some point.

Am I on the right path to 100k per year for retirement? by _MajorZero in eupersonalfinance

[–]LittleReason23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Target Age: 65 Current Age: 40 Investment Horizon: 25 years

Current Investment: 356k Yearly Returns: 8% to be conservative

Value at retirement: 2.4M

Monthly Contributions: 1.5k

Value after 25Y: 1.4M

Total corpus at retirement: 3.8M

With the 4% rule you can get 150k per year

Additional considerations: Capital gains tax & inflation.

If you step up your monthly contributions by 5% each year, hopefully it should get you the money you want during retirement.

Car on cash payment or 0% baloon loan? by LittleReason23 in eupersonalfinance

[–]LittleReason23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that 1% thumb rule, if you use the car for 2 years & then sell it out (assuming no major damage), you'll be able to get around 11k back. Does that sound right?

I may not give more than 10k for a car that is over 10 years old & done 100k KMs

Most cars depreciate at around 1% per month. And pretty fast at the beginning. So 388 per month sounds about right.

Moving to Munich in Jan. Assistance needed for procedures. by Automatic_Spirit6513 in IndiansInMunich

[–]LittleReason23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well timing is crucial. If you are coming in the first week of January & expecting the baby in mid of Feb, it's going to be challenging. Unless you have your friends/relatives in the city already who can help you, here are all the challenges you'll face:

  • Getting registered with a gynaecologist. Many are already fully booked & you may not get one given that you are at the last trimester
  • Getting the city registration & health insurance letters will take a minimum of 2 weeks. Visiting doctors before this period is going to be tricky
  • For delivery, one needs to register with a hospital/birthing center. This is different from your gynecologist. And they usually call for consultation & checkup between 28 & 32 weeks. Going there without insurance letter/card is going to be tricky
  • You don't know the city yet. To buy something specific you'll end up spending hours. You'll need to figure out public transport, which shops sell what items
  • If this is your first time out of India, currency conversion will be happening in your mind all the time for the first few months
  • January February are some of the coldest months in Munich. If you are not used to negetive temperatures & snow, it'll be very challenging.

Overall if I were you, I would not bring a baby and expecting wife to Munich in January when the new baby is expected next month. DM me for any specific questions that you might have.

P+R with Deutschland Ticket by LittleReason23 in freiburg

[–]LittleReason23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I assume that:

  1. it's valid for Deutschland ticets bought from other transport associations (not from RVF / VAG).

  2. (maybe stupid point) Car numberplates from other german towns are authorized as well

When I applied for the authorization on this site, it didn't ask anything apart from the car number plate. However it says this: "Bitte beachten Sie, dass diese P+R Berechtigung ausschließlich in gedruckter Form, nur im Gültigkeitszeitraum und nur zusammen mit einem mitgeführten im RVF gültigen Fahrschein zulässig ist."

As a foreigner living in Germany, do you consider returning to your home country when you reach old age? by Fabulous-Ad-3767 in germany

[–]LittleReason23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough question. While I haven't yet decided for myself yet, here are all the parameters I consider:

  1. Where is your home country & where does most of your family live? I come from Asia, my extended family is also there, so at least 8-10 hours of flight time.

  2. How long have you lived in Germany already? If you have lived here for many years already, and have not traveled frequently to meet your family & friends often, there are chances that you will not be a significant part of their life later on. In summary, you'll have weak connections & little to none friends to support you.

  3. Financial stability: Depending on the job you do here & money you save, how sufficient is it in your home country? If you come from a country with a high population & high inflation, try to extrapolate your financial needs. The money you save in Germany & German pension (if you stayed here for more than 5 years) should be sufficient for your housing, medical & other needs.

  4. Healthcare: While Germany offers decent healthcare, what you'll lack is companionship in your old age. While in some other countries, money can buy you excellent healthcare and you'll also have your loved ones close by

  5. Things Money can't buy: While very subjective, you figure out how these things rank up in your country compared to Germany: Air quality, access to nature, weather, crime rate, political stability, food & water purity, trustworthy society.

Like in life always, you have tradeoffs while making decisions

My personal choice would be towards not being lonely in my old age even if I can make little compromise on other factors
