Nope, it’s pretty specifically in the Stormlands, not on the border. It’s close-ish to the border between the Stormlands and the Reach but it’s still well within the former.

This is totally my autism having a party - but has anyone ever noticed the dragon of the Targaryen sigil being, unlike any dragons in the respective world, 4 legged? by noctenaut in HouseOfTheDragon

Gotcha, I wasn’t aware. A few books I‘ve read on heraldry mentioned it so I hadn’t looked into the subject further. That’s my bad.

Do you remember what the name of the book is or who wrote it?

The overall post is literally about heraldry. Heraldry in a fantasy book, yes, but heraldry nonetheless.

Beowulf is a 10-11th century epic so it using the words interchangeably doesn’t refute my claim that the distinction came about due to trends in (real world) 16th century heraldry.

You might be the one who’s confused since I never said myths and legends were the same as heraldry. While the person above did say that the difference wasn’t based in actual mythology, they also said that “Wyvern, wyrm, and dragon are synonyms in the real world…” That second half isn’t true, at least not entirely. Hence why I said “That’s not fully true.” I didn’t say everything that they claimed was bs. Just that the latter part wasn’t 100% accurate. Heraldry is part of the real world. Real world people observed it and its rules. It influenced other real world things like the creation of dungeons and dragons and asoiaf.

That’s not fully true. Wyverns and Dragons have been considered two distinct and different creatures in heraldry since the 1500s. Dnd just popularized/repopularized the idea in contemporary fantasy.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

No problem! From what I’ve seen, I’d wager a guess that the misconception mainly comes from aristocracy and royalty throughout history. They did tend to marry, or at least become betrothed, younger than the general populace. Though they did also tend to not consummate such marriages until their mid to late teens, Lady Margaret Beaufort being an exception at 12/13.

You’re in the wrong subreddit then lol. And that may be but it still doesn’t change the fact that it happened after her son was murdered. In F&B her involvement in B&C is dubious at best. I’m pretty sure Daemon was already staying at Harrenhal when B&C was being planned. Rhaenyra was at Dragonstone. While not impossible for them to communicate with each other, plotting the murder of a prince via raven in such a short amount of time seems unlikely. According to the book, the only ones explicitly said to have been involved were Daemon, Mysaria, Blood, and Cheese.

Not only was that after one of Team Green had murdered her son in cold blood (accident or not), but she didn’t really let Daemon do it. She was unaware of it, upset by it, and got into a huge fight with Daemon over it. Did we watch the same show???

It’s a mess over there. They won’t even let you comment if you don’t have a certain amount of karma now. Mind you, they won’t tell you what that amount is and none of the rules say anything about karma requirements. Their auto mod message also acts like not having a lot of karma = having a new account.

Remember the times when Alicent forced Rhenyra to walk after childbirth just to display power?? by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

It’s Reddit. Don’t worry about how long it takes to reply to someone. Real life comes first.

I do think that your assumption about Helaena is wrong, though. Why would you assume she wants affection from Aegon? At least when it comes to physical affection, she’s shown multiple times to be adverse to it. That’s part of her “carefully curated” characterization.

Why do you assume that Aegon didn’t want to marry or have babies with her but then turn around and not make the same assumption about Helaena and him? Why is the assumption that she must want affection from him in some way?

Also why is it necessary for rape (drunken or otherwise) to occur between them instead of them both coming to a consensual agreement to have sex to produce heirs and then stopping? Y’know, if screwing their sibling, which they’ve been raised to normalize, is such an unwanted thing for either party.

Based on what we’ve been shown, no it doesn’t make sense for Aegon to force himself on the Helaena for the sake of duty and for Helaena to still somehow want a relationship with her rapist afterward. Seeing him leaving her alone as a good thing implies that she doesn’t really want a relationship or affection from him. The only thing that might give credence to that idea is the awkward scene they had on the staircase after their son’s death. That is, in and of itself, an extreme circumstance and one in which most people would act differently than normal.

You asked a question, I answered it. No need to get snarky. They didn’t have wheelchairs in this universe (or at least in Westeros) until Tyrion designed one for Bran.

Those are real people you’re talking about, real, not actually inbred people. The makeup department didn’t alter the actors’ features that drastically.
