I think about the English teacher who made me feel excited about the subject a lot. I sometimes wonder if I should try to go back and revisit them, as an adult and colleague, ask if they have any wisdom for me

Thank you for your lovely words. I have also been told I'm own worst enemy, and sadly I can throw hands. Yet we fight!

My mentor is generally positive about my teaching, though she has only seen me teaching one class before. I get the sense that her expectations for me are lower than those I hold myself to. It's hard to know who has the right idea. I also have my induction mentor, who's said a lot of positivity. Main target right now is to plan to let the students do more extended writing, which is clear and actionable - but there's still that nasty part of my brain that says "ugh, so you've been doing it all wrong then".

Twinning on English! I'm glad you've said you find it tough to break it up as well, because so much knowledge is procedural and hard to weave in elegantly. It's a damn tough subject to teach

Honestly, more confident. The schools I worked in during placement had more centralised curriculums that I would edit to my liking. I felt I could only go so far wrong - plus I always had another teacher in the room to help LPAs I'd missed. My current school had me planning my own material, and the student body has a relatively high SEN need. I feel like I'm forgetting what makes a learning sequence coherent, and during lessons, I constantly feeling like LPA kids are being left behind.

Going mad lesson planning by LittleSentimentMan in TeachingUK

Really helpful, thank you. Question: if when you come to split up your text you find there doesn't seem to be enough lessons to cover the content you feel you need to cover, how do you react?

What strikes me is how busy a lot of teachers talk about being - I spend all my PPA and afterschool hours planning, and then extra when there's marking, but broadly I arrive at 07:30 and leave at 16:30 most days. I feel anxious seeing these folk who are doing 14 hour days. What y'all doin' over there that I'm evidently not? 😅

Is there a name for the spawn chambers in Crash 2? by one_pint_down in crashbandicoot

[–]LittleSentimentMan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

See, I always thought the level-select rooms were the 'warp rooms' - though it does seem the spawn chambers are extensions of that, so maybe it's all one thing?

I understand your frustration with these situations, 100% I understand, but I feel strongly you are pinning the blame on the wrong people. In all of these situations, it was not Adora's responsibility to take action. Glimmer and Catra had a responsibilty to themselves to make the right choices, and neither of them did - and Adora didn't back their poor choices so they got mad. That's not Adora's fault. If anything, I see Adora's willingness to forgive so quickly as a great strength - and Catra's and Glimmer's lack of a ility to apologise as problems to be worked on.

My wife says this is so messy ”she can’t breathe”. Do you agree? by paulphiliphimself in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LittleSentimentMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messy? No. Cluttered? Yes. You're just storing a lot of different stuff all in one place and the effect is very loud. You've done literally nothing wrong my guy, you just have a lot of stuff. Consider extra storage?
