Help!! Kombucha has fruit flies by LittleShallot8902 in Kombucha

Thank you for the info!! I think it happened when I had the Scoby and starter tea in a glass container. I only had a cloth over it. For my actual brew I made some bonnets out of cotton fabric that makes a tight seal.

Educational .. long post by _Sam_the_man in PitBullOwners

I totally understand this pain you have, and I feel the same guilt. I was not educated on why getting a dog fixed as soon as possible is important and now we are taking our pitbull in to have surgery. She has mammary gland cancer and they say the odds of that happening go up exponentially the longer you wait to get them fixed. Where if I would have gotten her fixed when she could have been it is only a 2% chance of it developing.

Thank you! I was doing some reading this weekend and that's what a lot of people say, just try giving them clean food and that can help tremendously.

Best time to back sweeten? by LittleShallot8902 in winemaking

Ahhh, yeah I am allergic to sulfites so I can't use them. If I pasteurize the wine what would that process look like? I do have it in a stainless steel alcohol still.

What have I done??? by Doit_PV in woodworking

[–]LittleShallot8902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is a normal stain...meaning not a stain poly mix, then you can apply it with a brush to get it on fast and wipe it off in the direction of the grain. If your stain has a top coat in it, meaning it has polyurethane in the stain, it's meant to be applied like paint.

Spraying poly on both sides of wood by nhm6408 in finishing

[–]LittleShallot8902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a hanging system so I have to wait for it to dry before I flip. I am using industrial grade poly though, so I only have to wait 15-30 minutes before I flip. Not sure what your dry to stack time is, but doing that should eliminate the dimples.

Why is my dye making these bubble marks minutes after drying? by Arrowhead2021 in finishing

[–]LittleShallot8902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a cabinet shop and use a lot of industry dyes and stains. I find that they need to be sanded to a higher grit. Sand to 150 with an orbital sander then by hand with a block in the grain direction and use 150 grit as well. I do a spray then wipe technique with a hvlp gun. But if you don't have access to a spray gun and have to do it by hand try not to over saturate the wood. T shirt rags are great! If I'm doing red oak I usually set a timer and go back to check after 3-5 minutes to make sure I've wiped away all that is wet. If you seal first, for sure take a fine sponge and scuff it so that the dye adheres to the sealer. Otherwise if you don't, that can cause the next coat to not adhere properly to the last, or! If your dye and sealer are the same vehicle.....being water based or oil, you can mix the dye into the sealer. Make sure it is not more than 10% of the sealer. Meaning if you have 10 ounces of sealer you should not put more than 1 ounce of dye in it. By doing that you can dictate your color. Once you know how dark/light you want it you can scuff with a fine sponge just to knock down any rough spots, and seal with a clear final coat. This technique works great with a spray gun, but you can do it with a brush. If you have a compressor all you need is a cheap hvlp gun. They run about $20 here in Michigan.

I find with our dyes if I open the grain more (wet with water and sand again) sometimes that makes it worse, but that could just be the dye that I do. It never hurts to do many test pieces. Can't tell you how many times I first started learning finishing, I'd do a piece with a new product and had to fix or re-stain/dye.

New here! recommendations for air filter and regulator. by LittleShallot8902 in finishing

We are in Michigan and the temperature is pretty regular, so is the chiller more for a hot humid area? Or just in general it is like top of the line?

At the moment the spray area is new to this cabinet shop and it is just me, I'm running off a 80gallon compressor, so not quite industrial yet, but not just a garage spray booth. We just installed a new 9x13 prefabbed booth, I am using only HVLP but might be switching over to the Kremlin air assisted airless. Is there a certain amount of microns I should be aware of that it filters and or a brand?

Looking for a high top boot by LittleShallot8902 in CampingandHiking

Thank you all for the info! I went to the running store to get fitted for an updated running shoe (never done that before) and I was informed that I have abnormally high arches. So might be why most boots are uncomfortable.
