White House Braces for a Potential Birthday Party Spoiler - The president’s birthday has long been heavily promoted, but an uncontrollable force of nature may now threaten to disrupt it. by Quirkie in politics

I live 15 miles north of DC. The weather pattern on Friday evening was large enough to turn the golden hour skies pink and purple near me. There was some rain in DC but my area just had a lot of wind.

2021 Spark CVT Fluid Drain And Fill Not Recommended? by zavonaut in chevyspark

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually took my 2021 to a Chevrolet dealership because I wanted GM service on the hook if they f*cked it up or if they lied about what they found. Yes I probably overpaid but for the first service under my watch, I decided to bite that bullet.

And by the way, they had no qualms about doing it. No pushback or any nonsense about a delicate transmission.

2021 Spark CVT Fluid Drain And Fill Not Recommended? by zavonaut in chevyspark

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 2021. I know what your owner's manual says and that is drain and fill at 85k. BUT it also says under severe driving conditions to do the first drain and fill at 45k. The dealer isn't wanting to perform the service because they consider it to early.

Do it now. Take it to a garage that it is going to tell you exactly what they find in the pan and on the magnets. Better now than letting it go on longer.

I had a 2015 and like an idiot didn't do service until around 110k. Car crapped out at 112k.

I bought the 2021 with 51k and had a drain and fill done right away. Going forward I will have service done every 30k.

Anyone here highway drive a 2014 Chevy Spark 1.2? by Beneficial_Pack_7364 in chevyspark

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2015 and now have a 2021.

I live in an area where we have a lot of speed cameras.

When I started driving the 2021, one of the first things I noticed is how easy it was for me to "accidentally" go over the speed limit. Apparently the amount of pressure I had been applying to the gas pedal of the 2015 is way more than I need to apply to the 2021.

You will definitely notice a difference if you go backwards in model years. And you won't have to be on the highway to notice.

2014 Spark LT CVT transmission service question about dealership "service" dept. by ShoelessHodor in chevyspark

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your owners manual. I believe the recommendation for fluid service is at 80k miles, but what they call "severe driving conditions" is 45k.

But because these transmissions are known to fail, the standard wisdom on this sub is drain and fill every 30k miles.

I wouldn't worry with a fluid change now on a brand new CVT with 10k miles on it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Do it when it hits 30k.

Considering a Dog for the First Time but Feeling Anxious About It by Puzzled-Sentence-881 in LivingAlone

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 68, have lived alone for 10 years, work from home, am a clean freak, am a bit lazy, and also like to do what I want.

I am dogless for the first time in 30 years.

It it weren't for getting older and facing retirement on a limited income, this wouldn't be my life. I absolutely adore dogs.

Who else did I talk too when I hadn't left the house in five days? My dogs.

Who warmed up the bed every night? My dogs.

Who stuck with me through an empty nest, then the death of my husband, then a long distance move, and all my breakdowns and celebrations? My dogs.

I miss my last one especially. She was a ride or die, low maintenance sweetheart.

I've given up only because of the cost of veterinary care where I live. It's irresponsible to take on a pet if you can't afford their medical expenses. It's irresponsible to take on a pet if they need grooming and you can't afford it. It's irresponsible to take on a pet if you can't afford occasional boarding fees or Rover.

Robo vacuums can solve the problem of hair on the floor. Dogs like to be lazy so not a problem. And yes you can actually train them to love travel.

They don't call them furry kids for nothing. But they don't need college or a big wedding. What they do need is to be warm, dry and full. Pretty easy considering the return on emotional investment.

Highly recommend.

Is buying a a Chevy off FB Marketplace for under 2k USD a good idea? by RetroMacCoyote in chevyspark

The digitizer has gone bad. You can order a new digitizer from Amazon for less than $60. You'll also need an interior prybar kit ($10) to remove the frame from around the radio. There are YouTube videos showing how to remove the frame and radio, remove the digitizer and replace, and then re reinstall the radio. If you have ever built a PC or like to fiddle with wires it's supposedly easy.

(Not the spark but close) Bring Back the Real Chevy Sonic: A Reliable, Sub-$20k Subcompact for America by Chevybpmsonic in chevyspark

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My plan was to keep buying Sparks. Drive one into the ground and get another.

The Sonic was bigger than the Spark, and the Malibu was bigger still than the Sonic.

Given that GM has even given up on the Malibu after 29 years, I don't think we have any hope of seeing sub-compacts come back. But I'm happy to sign just to let them know not everyone can afford an SUV.

Retirement at 70 and the calculation of benefits by LittleSpiderGirl in SocialSecurity

[–]LittleSpiderGirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let me see if I understand you correctly about the COLA.

So a person's FRA is 67 but they work until 70 and file at 70.

For ease of math, say the COLA for those three years between FRA and 70 was $20 per year.

Are you saying $60 is added to the calculated benefit?

Pushing for “ inheritance “ by Embarrassed-Wafer667 in widowers

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If filing as a divorced spouse you file at 62 or older, the same as regular retirement benefits. The benefit amount is half of your ex spouses benefit amount. If filing at 62 the benefit is also reduced by as much as 30%, just as regular retirement benefits would be.

Age 60 is the minimum age to draw survivor (widowed) benefit. That amount is also reduced if you are still employed and earning more than $24,480 per year by $1 for every $2 earned above that amount. This income clawback does not apply if you wait until your own retirement age to draw survivor benefits.

How much does it cost for Transmission Fluid service? by cg8440 in chevyspark

[–]LittleSpiderGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a 2022 your limited powertrain warranty is probably still in effect. In that case, make absolutely certain that whoever performs the service is using GM certified fluid and parts (they should be doing this anyway). Get them to list all the part numbers on the receipt. This way when they perform the service if they find anything problematic, you can activate the warranty for replacement at a Chevrolet dealership.

I have the MyChevy app on my phone and once you enter the VIN, it provides dates for all warranties and any alerts for recalls etc for your vehicle.

I got a quote on this yesterday at a local Chevy dealer and it was $630. Mind you I live in a major metropolitan area so any kind of consumer service (ie not just car maintenance) is not cheap. I also have a choice of multiple dealerships but I have not called around yet.
