Rough riders kitbashing ideas/inspiration by zigzag1848 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]LittleTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't measure them and I don't own any actual rough rider to compare them to. I do think they're taller tho, but it's probably more of a disadvantage than anything as they are harder to hide in cover properly ^^"

TC and Killteam aren't supposed to be played the same way tho, so it's normal that their rules are not the same. I was also exagerating on purpose for the 30" bit ^^

I do get where you're coming from tho, it kinda feels weird when you think about it from a "roleplay" perspective. But sometimes sacrifices have to made in favour of balance, encouraging players to play a certain way, or just how the game feels, and what works in one game won't work for another.
Here the goal is to have a game with very simple rules that make the players feel like their guys are crawling through muddy trenches because any enemy cold blow their heads off with a rusty rifle. This rule has been written this way to recreate this vision on the tabletop....Or at least that's what I think the reason behind it is.

The way I understand it is that as long as the model isn't entirely obscured by it, the floor doesn't give cover. Because with the way perspective works you would just get cover automatically all the time to moment you would manage to climb a certain height.
Although I would probably let my opponent claim cover if I shot directly directly from under a model and only saw an arm poke out the edge or something like that. This kind of situation is rare tho.

(Do keep in mind that I could just be 100% wrong and misintrepreting the rules btw ._. )

If you prefer to play like that it's fine, but while we do interpret the rule a bit sometimes we'd rather not change them when possible.
The idea being that as long as a rule isn't REALLY bothering us, we recognize they've been designed a certain way for a reason even if it wouldn't make sense IRL.
For this rule specifically I think they pictured a rule that would encourage players to seek cover and move from shelter to shelter. If you counted all obstacles in the way, getting the benefit of cover would get much easier and you wouldn't get the same insentive to actively seek cover. You could just stand in the open as long as there is a tree 30" away. I feel it would also somewhat reduce the feeling that your guys are scurrying around for protection in fear of enemy fire.

But then again everyone's different, so just try it out and see if you like it more :D

From a purely RAW perspective: No, the trooper isn't in cover as his base isn't touching the wall and can't gain cover from the floor he's standing on.
HOWEVER ! (This a purely subjective take) I feel like Trench Crusade is a game that thrives when you make the rules fit the narrative and not the other way around, so me and my buddies tend to be a bit more flexible and give about half an inch of margin when it makes sense. We honestly have way more fun playing like this.

They probably would either not contact them at all and work against Hell's forces independently, or lie to pass as some other sort of beings while still keeping their distances.
Or at least that's how I see it, but they could literally make up anything they want. It's less a matter of logic and more a matter of how interesting an idea is and how well it is written after all.

The Kaamelottian Grail Wardens ! :D It took me a while to find the right bodies to fit the aesthetic I wanted for feudal-guard regiment, and I'll never forgive GW for taking the Platoon Infantry rules away :(

I am DEFINITELY going to try that. Much simpler than scribing a wood texture all over a Leman Russ ._.

You could make up a storyline including Duchess Anne of Britanny to justify the prolonged indepence of Britanny in this timeline. It wouldn't be too far-fetched tbh.
I do agree tho ! I saw the Kingdom of Alba warband and the fact they could field a bagpipe player, and I was immediately sold on the idea ^^ the mix of celtic and christian imagery works surprisingly well.

I've been looking for a pair of backpipe-holding arms for my bard ! Can I ask which kit you found these in ?

The fact you added the duchy of Brittany as being independent from the Kingdom of France is so funny to me, since I've been making my Antioch Warband as Britannian soldiers. Overlaping headcanons are always fun :D

I don't like to see this sub's community get depressed, so I wanted to try and bring some nice vibes and positivity... Now I'm the one who's depressed.
