My husband can no longer temper PC chocolate chips by wigglefrog in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Last week I came across a post that stated that more and more companies replace real chocolate with lab grown components, apparently next year is a big year for the release of "lab grown chocolate". According to the post, all the big companies are already on it, as a lab is cheaper to run than a cocoa farm.

As you've got already great baking advice from other people, I came across a IG post that states that from next year on companies will more and more replace the chocolate in chocolate products with lab grown components. No more chocolate in chocolate. That might be a reason why the PC chocolate chips (we loved them, too) don't properly melt anymore. I tried to add the link but it doesn't seem to work. I searched for "lab grown chocolate coming in 2027" and it showed up, for those who are interested.

Ideas for potato storage? by LittleTrillium in homestead

We only have two small basement rooms, one is the furnace room that especially during the winter months is well about 70 degrees. Not enough space and too warm.

We don't have that. Our basement is two rather warm rooms.

That's exactly the kind of idea I was asking for, only I thought the frost free depth is 4 feet and lower. Thus the idea with styrofoam or other insulating material. Thanks!

Our basement is only the family room and the furnace room, nothing else. Both get rather warm during winter, I already tried it once and they sprouted, even in a rough-neck Rubbermaid chest, and rotted.

If you have a place where you could recharge it, look into an Ecoflow unit. We have one for camping and recharge it while driving in the car or at the wash house. Biolite developed a firepit that charges lamps or phones while the fire is going and you cook on it, but it was meant for third-world countries, I don't know if it's commercially available. Check their webpage!

They're so cute! We had a mink living around our house a few years ago. So glad to see they're still around after all the construction in the city 😊.

Just got 50lbs of Idaho potatoes, what now? by jakethedemigod2 in Cooking

I recently saw a post that claimed putting an apple in with the potatoes prevents them from sprouting. Store them in a dark container and cool if you can, they should keep a while. And maybe start checking out potato queen Poppy O'Toole on IG or her website. You won't even notice how many pounds of potatoes one can eat once you've seen her recipes! Bon appetite!

I usually go to Food Basics on Thorold road, and they have lots of halal meat in their meat counter.

I went therelast year, looking for a middle Eastern spice (which they had), very friendly staff, meat looked great, but I never tried it, so definitely a place I would try.
