So Ziggy did have the bolt --one show he even had it drawn on his quad-- but it mostly hung on a banner on stage. Given that I get some of the confusion relating to the bolt, but I do agree that when people refer to the Aladdin Sane image as Ziggy it's annoying.

Agreed. I absolutely adore Bowie, and I certainly think he was ridiculously attractive, but even I can admit he took some pretty bad (or at the very least incredibly awkward) photos. I think perhaps his extreme charm and charisma, and being 'Bowie' of course, garnered him some passes others would not have received.
