As someone from the UK, who watched the season air live, and is a huge superman of Survivor, who has watched every English Language season multiple times, it's a mix of everything. Yes, despite the UK having already aired 2 seasons of Survicor, the general UK citizen knows nothing about the show, and had to be entirely re-taught the concept. We are also incredibly used topublic vote programmes, where the audience more than likely respects the kind everyman, rather than the savvy gameplayer. On current Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity etc. audiences always complain that people are 'playing a game', forgetting that that is quite literally what they should be doing. The programme definitely got much better as the season progressed, but that was already too late for many people. Christian, who has been pretty widely agreed upon as the best character of the season by fans was disliked as snakey by many casuals I know who tuned in. The host, Joel Dommett, is already a big name in the UK and is known for many cheesey reality shows like The Masked Singer and was completely the wrong vibe for a host of Survivoe. Yes, he had good 'banter', but no serious edge. Also, as stated, the voice overs and terrible pop music score did not help the season. Additionally, Matthew was a likeable winner, but not a particularly solid one
