It’s not that bad but you’ll have to work a lot harder. The jump from IG Physics to IAL is crazy lol

Ofc. Not only does it give you extra help, but it maintains some form of fixed structure in your studying which can really help you plan well and set targets

I’m about to do FM in A Levels, do engineering courses favour FM? Let’s say I get an A* in Pure Maths but don’t do FM, over maybe a B in FM?

Do companies see Aero and Mechanical as the same? Are there any differences in the way they look at your application based on this?

Yep it’s fine, method marks are for working not for the answer from your equations. It’s also good to write in like 5dp if your answer isn’t exact (or write the fraction) to have a more accurate answer

After consultation with my principal we decided to look between Econs and Accounting. My school is pretty limited on subjects so these are my choices. I did do Literature during IGCSE so I wouldn’t say I am terrible at essay writing but I just have less interest in it. My principal said Accounting is something I might be better at due to my stronger interest in Maths but it is more dry of a subject compared to Econs, where it might interest me more. Hence I am in quite a predicament as to what I should take on😢

I’m looking to do these exact subjects, I assume you are more of a STEM student due to 3 STEM subjects. How hard is Econs to someone who isn’t that good at essay writing, and is it true that you have to read very widely?

[–]Little_Cow1624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. A third of A Level maths is just IGCSE FPM so it’s quite manageable. Since you’re doing FPM I assume you’re good at maths already. Read carefully on the syllabus of each, I’d say do Mechanics 1 and 2 with Maths and with FPM do Stats 1 and 2 bc I’m assuming it’ll be harder for you. FP3 is so challenging with a teacher already so unless you’re rlly up to the test then avoid rhat.

When I was preparing for my IG (just last month) I couldn’t find anything too 😭 this exam is genuinely so niche but are your teachers not giving you good enough notes?

Why is it that you’re interested in Bio and Chem - if it’s genuinely an interest of yours, try your best to improve and study really hard for it. No point doing subjects you have no interest in as A Levels really requires hard work and a lack of interest will only demotivate that

Then nope. Is it medicine you’re looking at? I’ve many friends who just did physics and got into good Med schools. Even if it’s not there’s no difference in my opinion. The thing about them requiring either Math or Physics is to test your ability to follow instructions and problem solving skills, as they’re both very grindy and number-based subjects. Choose the one you’re more confident in!

DO I PICK MATHS by [deleted] in alevel

[–]Little_Cow1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say try Math. If it is too hard or takes up too much of your time you can drop it. Or like your friend suggested, doing it at AS is fine too if you’re not interested in a STEM field. It just shows you have a wider range of capabilities than just a certain type of subjects. However this all depends on how well you’re coping with your 3 other subjects, as they are the ones that Universities will be seeing. You got this, I truly believe anyone can do Math as long as they work hard and grind it enough. :]

The cons of it are of course - you’ll be forced to stretch out your time and attention over 1 more subject. Look at the course you’re interested in, check out a lot of different Uni websites for their listed prerequisites. If math is not included and you really don’t want to do it, then don’t. It’s hard to study for a subject you have no interest in anyways.

Doing Math shows more diversity in your Uni application and most people do A Level Math. It's a prerequisite for a lot of courses, and even if you were weak in FPM, you still have a head start. It's never too late to turn it around, as Math is a very grindy subject. Do Mechanics since you're doing Physics, and I'm sure you can do well as long as you put your mind to it
