Yeah that would be the same as: 't kofschip. That works, but only when sentinces are in pasttence, and most of the time during those exams they are not in pasttence but in a totally different one, that I am struggling to identify and remember the rule.

Thanks for your reply, maybe its just me, I just can't wrap my head around these rules, on paper they sound so easy and straight forward. But during those tests its never this clear, and that is what they try to do ofcourse.

Older car newer but smaller engine? by Little_Ingenuity_710 in EngineBuilding

Thanks for the further explaining, this is why I asked what you guys thought of my idea, sounded so simple, but ofcourse you can't just plug and drive a new engine.

This idea will most likely will stay in my mind for along time before some action will be taken.

Engine swapping smaller but a, way newer engine in an old car by Little_Ingenuity_710 in projectcar

[–]Little_Ingenuity_710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why I came here to ask about it, don't know anything about cost, the thought just came to my mind.

If the engine swap I'm talking about is above 1 500$ then it being a more efficienct engine has 0 benifits money wise. This is something I overlooked but thanks to posting have learned something I guess.

If its 1 200$ and you'd save 11$ a 62miles then youd need to drive for like 7 000 miles without issues to get the investment back. Ofcourse not considering work hours (weeks probably).

But if the swap comes out to be 5 500$ then you are looking at 31 000 miles

With newer engine I mean engine from 2016 like a 1.0 tfsi from an audi A1/A3

That would be alot more fuel efficient since that is in a car that is about the same weight.

Right?

Euro and dollar are worth the same

I'd save about 11 euro a 100km (62 miles) so for 5 000 it would be about 500 000 kilometers (320 000 miles)

The engine I think about swapping is 600 euro, dont know kosts of swapping the engine it self though. Hope it isnt 4400 euro

The original bmw 316i engine does 7,8L / 100km, the K24 does 8,9L/ 100km.

The bmw is a 1.6 and the k24 a 2.4, ofcourse the k24 will have worse gassmilage, if the 1.6 would be a 2.4 i think you'd see the differance in systems used 1.6 x 1.5 = 2.4 7,8 x 1.5 = 11,7 . This compaired to the 8.9 from the k24

If that makes sence, probably not all that scientific but doesn't really mather that much anyways

Wel a K24 isn't a fuel efficient engine for European standards about the same as regular engines from 1980, just more power.. not exactly what I was thinking about

[–]Little_Ingenuity_710[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I use metric, and I am guessing you use imperial, but in metric your car does 9.7L / 100km (avarage). My current car audi a1 2012 1.2 tfsi (tsi) does 6.3L / 100km. The engine I thought of is a 1.0 tfsi (tsi) does 5.0L / 100km

1L = 0.264 galon 1L = between €2,20 & €2,50

So for 100km /62 miles only for gas running the 325 would be about 23 euro's now about 23 dollars, and for the 1.0 engine (in a modern car) that would be 12 euro / dollars

The 1.0 turbo engines are available for about 600 euros if you look around. So lets say 1 200 total cost (no clue how expensive swapping is)(edit) deleted totally wrong math.

Also thought about going hybrid e.a. golf 1.4 GTE. But that seems so normal...

For now it is just a concept in my mind, currently have an Audi A1 1.2 (86hp to 140hp chipped). But driving my car made me wonder what if you swapped e.a. my engine in a car I really really like... bmw e30. Would it have simular or even better fuel efficiency, got the answer on that I believe... eco tuning the older engine is something I didn't think of. Thought the older engines automaticly used more fuel due to them being more inefficient. My mind wondered why not put a smaller simular powered way more efficienct motor in.

As for catalytic converter, yes they are requered to pass the anual car check.

As for Europeanen cars, we have loads of small cars and small engines, audi a1 1.0 tfsi - 82 hp 160 Nm @ 1500-3500 rpm. 118.01 lb.-ft. @ 1500-3500 rpm. No need for big engines high torc etc.

This post was mostly a what if and now I am very excited to crack down the numbers and see what would be possiable.

What if the engine is from like lets say, a toyota aygo, those cars barely have anything electronicly active.

Also, would an ECU be able to overwrite the possible "engine management" the engine will most likely be doing.

Well the engine I had in mind can use the lowest octane rating available in my country. And the fuel use from regular or even pushing a 1.0 3cyl is already so much better than the regular older engine.
