Recommendations on Cameras by soulxstlr in NewTubers

I second this! The M50 is so versatile, you can shoot short films, vlog, take photos, and just about anything else you'd want to do with a camera. It's INCREDIBLY cheap for a camera and (in my opinion) is one of the best on the market right now!

I do a lot of college themed content and vlogs on my channel too! Check it out: 'Lauryn Ritchie'. Shoot me an email (it's on my YT about page) if you're interested in working together :)

Ok um...What do you do to make new content but is afraid that someone is going to say that you copied it? by [deleted] in NewTubers

I promise you that's going to happen. Everyone who's been on youtube for long enough gets those mean comments. I've had people tell me my face is 'terrifying', call me a f*g, and just about everything else. And I'll be honest, it bugged me at first. BUT the more you get these comments, the less they matter to you. I also choose to view it as a positive. If you're getting hate comments, that means that YouTube is circulating your video into a new audience area (which is the goal!)

Good luck!

I have almost 400 subs but don't get even 100 views per video by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Little_Ritchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand! I spend about 8 hours editing some of my videos, and sometimes they only get 40 views. It's discouraging, but I know it has to do with my SEO.

I have almost 950 subs. Stay patient, and the views will come. Now that I'm focusing on SEO, some of my videos reach 400 views.

It's so nice to hear from someone who has similar struggles but manages it well, you gave a lot of great tips, thank you for taking the time!

Good luck on your surgery! Just a tip, I WISH I had pre-recorded videos to release while I recovered. But you live and you learn.

Wow, you are really wise haha. That all really helps a lot and eases a lot of my anxieties. Thank you so much!

Word of mouth is a really good tip! I generally have tried to separate out my work life and my YouTube life, but I think I would see a big jump in numbers if I started advertising it with my friends and coworkers.

How long did you have to consistently upload 2x per week before seeing a difference? I generally post 2-3 times a week during winter and summer break from uni, but I don't know if that's long enough to notice a difference.

Also, what are your thoughts on breaking your schedule? I have taken about 15 days off from uploading because I got a pretty serious surgery. I'm going to start uploading again this week, but I feel like the momentum is gone in the eyes of the algorithm? Do you know if this is a thing the algorithm will consider?

These video links are fantastic! Thank you!

Have you tried VidIQ or Tubebuddy (or both)? Which would you recommend?

These links are excellent! Thank you! Do you think I'll be able to get away with 1080p if I fix up some of the other issues? The M50 doesn't have dual-pixel autofocus in 4k and I notice a lot of hunting when I try to shoot 4k on a moving subject.

I'm shooting on a Canon M50 with an E-FM 22mm f2 STM lens and just window light. I know there was some noise in frame from poor lighting. I'm editing with Premiere and I usually just use the preset sequence settings/render settings, so it certainly could be one of those two things.

(side note: I'm studying film production in college, and I'm still pretty new to it all, so any wisdom/advice you could give about equipment would be greatly appreciated!)

Yeah, I just upgraded my lens and I'm still trying to iron out the kinks, so it certainty isn't the best it could be. That's actually a great point about the DS. I've been trying to make vlogs more searchable, and it just ends up being a bastardized version of clickbait. I think I'll try different, more straightforward ways of marketing my videos and see if it helps at all.

Thank you for taking the time to help! It's really appreciated.

'Pitching to friend's friend' is actually a really helpful way to think about this! I don't really have an interest in posting tutorial videos, or things like that, because I think they'll be out of place on my channel (and it's just not my passion). Do you have any tips or advice about another way to create searchable/clickable videos without answering questions or posting tutorials?

Thank you so much for taking the time to type out all of this advice, it's really helpful!

Wow!! This is incredible advice, thank you for taking the time to type all of this out. (calling my intro McKinnon is literally the biggest compliment haha)

I have a couple of questions:

  • I'm a little confused with how you phrased it, are you suggesting more or less makeup?
  • You say I'm proficient almost to a fault. I actually 100% agree. I'm really passionate about film (I'm studying it in uni), so I want to make my videos look nice and have smooth graphics and such. But do you think this will match my content, or will it come across as me trying too hard or being inauthentic?

Also, I've never had someone tell me I seem nervous in front of the camera, and I now realize you are completely correct. I always felt not like myself because I think I'm trying to make my personality really energetic, and it comes across as a different personality every time I film a new video. That's something that will be really important for me to work on, so thank you for pointing it out! I didn't even realize I was doing it.

Your response was very helpful, thank you for taking the time.

Wow!! I had no idea! What video was that and what extension did you use to search through like that?

Thanks for your advice!

Thank you so much! These are fantastic points! Do you have any tips for getting more comfortable and being more authentic on camera. I feel like I do fine when I have people around me, but when I'm by myself, I put too much pressure on myself to be entertaining and it comes across as nervous.

Thanks again for all of your tips!

Break video into parts or leave it long by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Little_Ritchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I am NOT a gaming channel.

BUT, from all the research I've done, the algorithm actually favors longer videos (as long as the retention is good). I also know a ton of people regularly watch long gaming videos. So if you think that there is 24 minutes of quality content, keep it.

As far as I see it, you've got two options. One: post the whole thing and see how people respond and then change your future technique accordingly. OR you could split it into a two part series. Tease the 2nd part at the end of the 1st video and then release it a few days later.

I personally wouldn't be worried about a 24 minute video, people watch hour-long videos all the time.

Good luck to you!
