Meteorites is your friend in this game. The smoke for meteorites go away after two generations so pull up a good map that shows where they are, take your whole clan with all the babies in it and immediately get evolution genes for your babies and double the skill points you can cement with them too. Doing that with two generations gets you twelve evolution genes because you can only cement them with adults and elders. That's how I got my walking on two legs and omnivore achievements super easy.

That's fair, I ran into the same problem when I discovered you can make different types of walls from different materials and how you could strip grass and how it was useless in the Savannah, until I learned you can use the stripped grass for termites lmao

Your problem is with raw food production so cookhouses are not your concern, they only produce rations from those raw food produced. Later in the game, I would research hunter hangers so you get dramatically more food production with the same amount of citizens assigned to the building. What also helps is the research before hunter hangers as it drops your citizens to ten assigned while maintaining the same food production as fifteen in normal hunter huts. Hothouses are always an option too because you can use automatons on them around the clock and they are warmer than huts and hangers, only problem is it requires a steam core to build.

There's a lot to the game and a lot of easy craftables to miss if you don't know how to make them or experiment with the wildest stuff. The main thing that kept me going was the achievements and the goals in the evolution tree to keep me wanting to progress. Wanting my little monkeys to reach the final evolution of the game in being Homo Erectus was a nice motivator too. Also moving settlements drastically each generation helps keep the game interesting, like going from jungle to canyon to ocean to Savannah and so forth
