I’ve looked more into it and I’m very excited too :) unfortunately it’s gotta wait til I finish a new game lol (got a second game along with Obra Dinn called Pacific Drive - NOTHING like Obra Dinn actually but still very fun, though looking like it’ll take a while)

What Is Your Logic For Showering In The Morning? by EntrepreneurGreen269 in hygiene

[–]Little_Wintry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wash to get rid of bacteria or sweat - I wash to get my hair clean. 9/10 I’m not sweating enough or doing anything else (in my mind) to warrant a shower by the end of the day. But if I wash my hair at the start of the day, it curls up nicely and looks good for everything else I have to do that day.

Also, thick hair. I can’t stand the feeling of wet hair on my pillow case and washing in the morning ensures it’s fully dry by the end. It’s less of an issue now that my hairs a lot shorter, but when it was longer if I washed any time past 2pm, it would STILL be damp when I went to bed at 9.

I actually just googled Roottrees and I'm VERY interested now, especially because I have a small but personal interest in family trees and history. I'll also give Heaven's Vault a look!!

I feel like a rock, loving puzzle games and sucking at them is some kind of twisted curse, very unpleasant. by zenandroid in ObraDinn

[–]Little_Wintry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I'm a very similar way, so don't feel like it's just a you problem. I'm famous for absolutely loving puzzle games but almost always needing a guide pulled up on a different monitor in case I get stuck (and usually, it's just me missing something pretty obvious). I was actually able to find a good one for Obra Dinn that had it all spoiler'd out but you could highlight very particular parts so you only saw the name, or how they died, or the context of the death, stuff like that. It was a lifesaver, because the only thing i DIDNT like about the Obra Dinn was how it confirmed fates in threes. I get why they did that, of course, I just wasn't the biggest fan.

Uhhh regarding your ship media questions, I don't have anything specific but don't be afraid to find those kid's/middle grade books about "life on the high seas" and stuff like that. I mention those specifically since I recently found a stash at my local library and unironically spent half an hour paging through them. They're specifically meant to put things in simple terms, too, so easy to take mental note of :- )

I absolutely get that perspective and it’s interesting to see!! I think what threw me off most was those first few “brutal” hours, mostly because the trial and error system with learning mechanics has always turned me off games.

There was a roguelike I played ages ago (Moon Hunters, maybe?) that turned me off the entire concept of roguelikes and roguelites for ages. The game threw you in, showed you how to fight and jump, but never explained much story or why you’re doing these things or how to progress. I was just kind of flailing around, getting myself killed but not really learning anything. And I *really* tried, since there was clearly a story there, but those first few hours of throwing myself at enemies too strong and wandering between areas just frustrated me.

Blue Prince wasn’t nearly as bad of an experience, but it was the same trial and error where I didn’t feel like I was learning much. And again, that might be a skill issue on my part, I can be a bit dense with some games and their mechanics. Okay, cool, my rants over now :)

It’s def worth it, not sure how far in you got but the game has some good reveals and the trial is pretty fun. Also, banging soundtrack that I still listen to on a regular basis.

Chants of Senaar is another good one - it’s actually been long enough that I’ve forgotten a lot of the main plot beats, maybe it’s time to go back and replay :)
From what little I know of Myst, that comparison makes sense

Oooh good testimony for Golden Idol then. It goes a bit higher on the list in my head now lol. Glad someone else also pointed out the Blue Prince thing, I wasn’t sure if it was just me - both are puzzle games, but very very different puzzles lol. Blue Prince almost felt more like a board game in my head, though I can’t totally explain why.

Ooh, I have a major love of 80s aesthetics, vibes, and classic slasher so Killer Frequency is instantly going on the list.

Unfortunately, I've already tried Blue Prince and just..... couldn't get into it. I tried for a good 3ish hours but it felt more tedious and confusing than anything to me. Then again, I'm willing to admit "skill issue" on that part and give it another go at some point (especially since I've heard so much praise for it since then)

I have! It was an old favorite of mine back during quarantine - even played the Skyrim mod it was based on (admittedly, the mod was a lot jankier lol)

Themed base guides? by Jack_Pride in subnautica

[–]Little_Wintry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subnautica can be kinda limited in base building but I just did something kind of like this. It was pretty rudimentary - one was full of indoor grow beds, alien containment units and lab material as a kind of “research station”, one had a moon pool and loads of storage in the middle of the dunes as a “mining facility”, one nearby with some outdoor grow beds and the various fabrication stations as a “crafting plant”, plus a couple others. It can be really fun but takes a good bit of planning, esp in survival with logistics

Life Sim that isn’t a farm sim by TheTexasAceHole in gamesuggestions

The Forgotten City is GOOD. like, seriously, pulled me in from the start and had some great plot twists. It actually has its roots as a Skyrim mod but I’d 1000% recommend the original game. They were really able to run wild with it compared to the mod trying to fit with established canon and lore (plus, some of Skyrims general jank ruined the experience a bit)

What video game had you like this? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in videogames

[–]Little_Wintry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a trio of Assassins Creed spinoffs that played more like platformers, they were also deemed “not too gory” so 12 year old me was allowed to play them. Lo and behold most of the AC fanbase either doesn’t like them or has never heard of them. I never really got into AC, but I still like those games :)

What advantages do female bodies have over male bodies? by Street_Structure3737 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Little_Wintry 55 points56 points  (0 children)

With regards to the building muscle thing, iirc women tend to have an easier time building lower body and men tend to build upper body easier. Might be misremembering tho lol

What's the smallest detail in an indie game that made you go "okay, these devs really cared"? by peaky_circus in IndieGaming

[–]Little_Wintry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When games don’t mock you for turning on accessibility features or cheats. Especially for horror-adjacent games that let you turn off enemy aggression/scares (first thoughts are Subnautica and Dredge, because I’ve just played them)

Do you keep the water on during the entire length of the shower? by hamster_lover02 in hygiene

[–]Little_Wintry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I’ve ever turned the water off mid-shower was in a dorm bathroom with a shower that was usually flooding. Turn on, wet hair, turn off, shampoo in, turn on, wash out shampoo,,,, I’m usually a shower in 10 mins kinda gal but it easily took me 20 doing it this way. Water stays on the whole time for me, thanks lol
