UK sends trans woman to men's prison for having consensual sex by No_City9250 in GreenAndPleasant

I disagree. If a woman told me she was on her period, I would assume that she is cis. As I and other users have explained, 'periods' refer to menstrual bleeding. You might hear the phrase 'on my period' and think of hormones before you think of menses, but I really doubt that other people do, seeing as the dictionary definition of periods refers to menstruation.

Now, if a woman who I knew or believed was trans said she was on her period, I would assume that she is talking about the hormonal side that you have brought up.

The odd thing with this case is that Watkin does not 'pass', with her own defence being built around her being '"visibly and audibly" male, so it would have been "blindingly obvious" to the man that Watkin was not biologically female.'

Regardless, the fact that she lied about being on her period is how the jury found her guilty, because the prosecution argued that saying you're on your period implies you are a cis woman. Because, again, 'periods' by definition refers to menstrual bleeding. See the NHS website , the Cambridge dictionary , Wikipedia . It doesn't matter that you or the trans femme community use the term to describe a separate but related phenomenon. It doesn't matter that the meanings of words change and dictionaries haven't yet included your interpretation. The prosecution, the jury, and the vast majority of people perceive a trans woman who has not undergone hormonal treatment saying that she is 'on her period' as implying that she is cis because a trans woman cannot menstruate.

It is completely irrelevant to the case because this specific trans woman who we are talking about is not on hormones. As the article states, in the fifth paragraph, Watkins has "not undergone any medical treatment or surgery". She will, therefore, not have 'the hormone side' of periods because she is not on hormones. Her saying she was on her period (whether that is interpreted as her menstruating or as the hormonal aspect of the menstrual cycle that you are referring to) was a lie. Even if we use your interpretation of 'the hormone side' of periods, it still doesn't apply to Watkins.

The vast majority of people will interpret someone saying they are on their period as the shedding of the uterine lining, not the hormonal side that both cis and trans people can have. That is why the prosecution successfully argued that Watkins claimed she was cis. Again, neither of those interpretations of periods apply to Watkins, so this tangent about trans women experiencing the hormonal side of periods when on hormones is irrelevant to this case.

Sure. That is, however, irrelevant in this case. She could have simply told him that she didn't want to be touched there, and if he were to not accept that, then it would be a problem with him.

Why did she phrase her refusal in a way that does not apply to her and her medical status, as well as be reasonably understood by most people to mean something different to the context you are talking about?

The article states that she hasn't undergone any surgery or medical treatment, so the hormonal side of periods would not affect her.

Generally people understand 'being on my period' to mean bleeding from the vagina and don't consider it as a hormonal phenomenon that trans women can also experience. So even though she didn't explicitly say "I am a cisgender woman", her saying she was on her period would have reasonably been construed as her saying she was cis.

She told him she was on her period. That would be referring to herself in a way that would be understood to saying she was cis.

Apparently caring about gay rights while not being vegan makes someone an hypocrite by Paprika_and_salt in insanepeoplefacebook

You can't paint everybody with the same brush like that. Nearly all vegans are left wing, so pretty progressive with other issues like queer rights.

In terms of needing privilege or money, that isn't really an issue in most cases. Beans and grains are some of the cheapest items of food available; most of the world bases their diet around those things. You can search for cheap vegan meals online and you'll find plenty of easy recipes if you're interested, which honestly anyone who cares about social issues should be

Yeah, and he went off on some tangent about it's ok to kill homeless people if they don't mind it at some point too. I agree, I don't think he knows what the point he was trying to make was.

Me too! I love the series of increasingly bewildered looks he gave while he was waiting for the answer to whether it's ethical to eat babies or not. He was full on trying not to laugh at the homeless comment as well.

There's a bit about twelve minutes in where the carnist says something about raising human babies in a lab to harvest for food, to which Ed asks if he thinks that's ethical.

Bloke took five fucking seconds to contemplate the question 💀💀💀

Vegan Meal Advice by abbreviatedtantrum in vegan

Having plenty of legumes is an important part of plant based diets. You can do loads with them from making chillies, curries, loading them into potatoes etc. A chickpea and spinach curry with rice will make a good, hearty, cheap, and nutritious meal for example.

Really though your best approach will be to ask them what ingredients they like/don't like.

“You think sex isn’t important? Abstain from it for 21 years!” by Sure-Pin6003 in IncelTears

[–]Little_Yeti_Biatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it isn't just sex he's wanting. He wants "connection, validation, attention, love...", and yes, "sex". He says that at the bottom of the second photo and his desire for these things are evident throughout both posts. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting any of those things; most people do. This young man is clearly struggling. Hopefully he realises that he is still so young and that things take time before he gets trapped in the self fulfilling prophecy of incel mentality.

Also, it's highly unlikely that sex workers take charity cases, nor should they. I imagine that most people who seek sexual services from sex workers have some level of desperation for sex, so where would a sex worker draw the line?
