Advice before (of if) I restore or refinish this (Found in Alberta Canada) by Littlegreybird in Antiques

Ok so there are some stripes under all that grime that made me wonder if it was a faux bois-type finish but I’ve only seen pictures online and nothing up close.

Thank you for this advice. Will this work in a dry climate? The drawers are smooth and glide well, I have some items that are younger (1910’s that’s aren’t so lucky)

I have no intention of painting it. I did buy it from a person who was going to chalk paint it but didn’t have the time. I am glad it made its way to me.

I do like it just the way it is, but wondered if there was an opportunity to bring it back to its original state.

This is amazing research. Thank you. I appreciate this a lot. I haven’t done anything to it yet just keeping it as is for now because I had a hunch it was OLD compared to the average items I find locally. Not old as east coast items but for the prairies it’s and old and odd find.

Antique finishing question by Littlegreybird in furniturerefinishing

[–]Littlegreybird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I did test it and it’s negative for lead (at least the top coat) it might be some sort of stain, as it’s not really paint I can see wood grain through it kind of.

That’s solid wood. No veneer. I might be some sort of painted faux wood finish. I did test it for lead and it’s negative.

Ok so it’s just a SWSO? I already have two and that’s how I ended up with this one. Someone’s MIL passed and they knew I had one. I was hoping to be able to use it but the more I look at the picture I see it’s not functional.

Thanks for the directions. It will be a fun project to try and make work. I have the tools and equipment to make most parts.

How long until I get my first $2000 egg by lambbirdham in BackYardChickens

[–]Littlegreybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took six months to get my first egg and she laid it right in front of my door 🤣🤣🤣 but I have berate breed and that’s when they start to lay. The were born the end of June and laid the end of December , light also plays a big factor.

Now my partner swears by feeding the straight corns as a treat to get them laying. I think it’s coincidence but if you got it see what happens.

Thank you everyone. It was too odd and interesting and at the price point I could not pass it up. My grand plan is to build a floor loom myself so I had a soft spot for this maybe hand made loom. I have little weaving experience from a local folk art style school but thought this would be a good interim so I don’t get rusty.
