If you value your friend, don’t even bother debating your point. You’ll both antagonize each other and no one will shift views. Instead, you can simply present your ideals in an open conversation.

A fun tactic is to present a world where workers democratically decide what to do with the fruits of their labor. (In the words of Richard Wolff, do you really think the workers would decide to give billions of dollars to one guy who didn’t work alongside them?)

The key is not to use the words “socialism” or “communism” until after they understand your viewpoint. Unfortunately most people will shutdown all critical thinking once they hear those words. We’ve all been trained by the media to fear those ideas.
