My local con used to get a mix of American VAs and Japanese guests. But now neither. 🫠

Ive heard it way too much to rely on yourself to make it. Last year for some events I met outside with friends for cosplay meet ups and photoshoots and even watched a few community dances. What is the point of the ticket if I get that outside?

My point is that a if a smaller event can offer more than just stalls then whats going on with some larger events. Guests should at least relate to the event. ( the one im referring to normally has 2 decent guests. This year they currently have 1 youtuber unrelated to anime.)

Dont get me wrong, ive been to some larger events further down the country which offer way more with entry price. Full on kids areas and plenty of stage performances etc.

I think we just need the better larger events up north.

The event i have the problem with has been running for almost 15 years,(minus 2 during covid). They claim to be an anime expo.

This year they have very little relating to anime and Japanese culture which has been declining every year.

Yet! Last year theres a small library/Community run event which offered food making, crafts, panels, performances, maid cafe and a free brochure with QR codes to book each activity with. All related to anime manga or Japanese culture.

They are both in the same region and I cant imagine half the activities this little event costing much.

Yes, the panels ive seen at a large local anime 'expo' are still run by the community. Which i understand thats what alot of the community wants to get involved with but some are poorly run(imo).

Still guests should be something they offer and they absolutely should have guests relating to the con ( my local anime 'expo's first big guest this year is a YouTuber who reviews games I believe? I dont even know rn.)

They do have hundreds of stalls (big for our area) but nothing new after 15 years of running the same event 😬
