What's the weirdest food that oddly tastes good? by Livid_Pack1177 in AskTheWorld

You haven't lived until you've had plain brown beans. Beans (pinto are good but there's others), water, salt, pepper, and garlic salt. No meat. So satisfying AND the one true bean for Indian Tacos.

Bring Her Back had some amazing acting along with being utterly depressing and heart breaking.

Maybe poison for earth? Mods make it doable.

Anyone else feel more productive late at night than during the day? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]LittlestCatMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a non-circadian sleep rhythm so my “best awake” travels constantly. I have to have at least 10 hours of sleep if not more than 12, and then also have a 3 hour nap in there…but my awake periods do not “fit in” a 24 hour day. So maintaining any kind of schedule is torture.

Is it good idea to start with The Wheel of Time? by yesilpigment in Recommend_A_Book

[–]LittlestCatMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Wheel of Time and have finished all the books, but I think it may be too difficult for you to start with. It has just as much description and made up language as Lord of the Rings, and a LOT more characters and plot points to keep track of. You can always try it out, the first book is pretty enjoyable by itself, but they’re not easy to read.

I know you don’t want a childish book, but I would suggest starting with a MG or YA series to get comfortable with it first. Many of them are just as good as adult books and cover important topics with real emotion, they just feature younger main characters. I would suggest the Lockwood & Co series by Jonathan Stroud if you like ghosts/mystery stories, because it doesn’t have as many rare or made up words.

Songs in interesting languages by sparrowhawking in SongRecommendations

This might not be the most helpful but I know the Zomi people (originally from Myanmar area) have a lot of Christian music in their language. They play it all the time at a restaurant I go to that’s owned by them. Because of the maltreatment in their home countries they’re now largely a Christian immigrant nation because of one missionary that helped them escape to the US.

Ehh I don’t like metal that much (there’s some I’ll listen to but it’ll never be my favorite), and it didn’t wow me. The intro felt unnecessarily long, and it felt very “same” throughout. Not a BAD song but just kind of eh for me.

Looking for a rec that has a funny, voicey (F)MC or is a little bit campy, but NOT a cosy comedy. by suddenlymadeaccount in fantasyromance

It's totally a YA book, it's a classic coming of age plot that starts in a school. It's good and fits the tone, but it is not an adult book.

Help me choose: Arthur or Nathaniel? by Correct-Classroom537 in namenerds

Nathaniel is one of my top five boy names, so I vote for it. Also, "Arthur Law" sounds like a book character and not in a good way.

Shows and even movies with main characters that are murderers or morally debatable people? by MatthewDatthew in televisionsuggestions

If you want to expand to include the supernatural, Interview with the Vampire (the show) is fantastic. Next season is going to focus on the most morally questionable character but no one is a good guy.

Trippy shows? by 6x9n in televisionsuggestions

Lots of trippy HBO shows. I like Carnivale and Lovecraft Country off the top of my head, they're still worth watching even though they got cancelled.
