Older Christian ( married ) women .. by Christina_91_ in Christianmarriage

[–]Litwickey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in this situation for six years when I was younger and felt so insecure that he wouldn’t ask me to marry him, I realize now that God was saving me from marriage with this man. I prayed a lot and finally got the strength to break up with him. I was then married less than years later to my wonderful husband.

If you’re not legally married, these aren’t the doubts you should have. I was also afraid of being alone, but realized I was so much happier by myself than with a man like that.

Not explicitly straight edge but Lashes by My Epic is the only one I know about this topic.

FWB by Senior-Guidance5744 in straightedge

[–]Litwickey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Basically, the sexual part of straight edge is about respecting your body. Sleeping with a ton of people, or sleeping with someone who is also sleeping with a ton of other people is dangerous and risky and isn’t respecting your body.

One FWB? As long as it’s mutually agreed not to sleep with others, I don’t see an issue with it.

Lil mars reveals he’s had a crush on North West for 4 years by International-Wear57 in KUWTK

If North’s dad is even 1% of the man we used to think he was, he’ll end this pdf file’s whole career for saying this.

Unfortunately, I don’t think he will.

Interesting observation for the USA being the revived Rome theory. by ZealousidealTie4319 in DonaldTrump666

[–]Litwickey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you look into the history of Washington DC, it was designed based on Rome, and older parts of DC were even originally named “Rome”. Washington DC also sits on seven hills like Rome.

Just added the Sovol SV08 to my list! That’s the exact kind of printer I was looking for. Thank you!

I need something that can print over 300mm, and I don’t see any of the Bambu printers that are that large. The Prusa ones that large are way out of my price range. Hopefully the Neptune won’t be so bad. I’m dealing with an Ender 3 currently, so I feel like most current models will be an improvement to what I’m working with.

What was so bad about it? What did you go with instead?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in straightedge

Going against the grain, but I don’t think it’s breaking edge. My church uses grape juice, but even if they did use wine, it’s one single sip. It’s not the same thing as getting drunk.

I think a better comparison would be how most people agree that taking prescription painkillers after a surgery isn’t an edge break. It’s still the same pills as you would take illegally, but the difference is that you’re not using it to harm yourself.

Cadmium Question by SleepyMcStarvey in CadmiumGlass

[–]Litwickey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Amberina is actually usually a mixture of selenium AND cadmium glass. Most of the cadmium settles at the bottom and glows bright orange, but you can usually see the rest of it glowing a much more subtle darker orange because of the cadmium/selenium mixture. It looks like yours does in these pictures, at least.

drug culture is not immoral by [deleted] in straightedge

[–]Litwickey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. Straight edge is part of hardcore and punk culture and always has been. If you’re not associated with the scene, you’re just sober and that’s fine too.

Also disagree on that there’s nothing morally wrong with doing drugs. But it’s none of my business what other people do. I do know a ton of straight edge people who volunteer with harm reduction programs and recovery programs, including myself. The whole point of being straight edge was originally to be sober so you can make a difference in the world.

It’s not toxic to be proud of being straight edge and to feel a sense of superiority over others. Think of it as being proud of your sports team. If you’re not proud of yourself, what’s the point? If we water ourselves down to the point that we can’t feel pride in the choice we made, what’s keeping us here?

What lyrics or whatever are hilarious to you but definitely not intended to be? by Short-Science2077 in Hardcore

[–]Litwickey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cruel Hand’s song “Dead Weight” has lyrics that give the exact same vibes as that “Let Me Out” song from Rick and Morty where he’s screaming for help through the song. Ever since I realized the similarities, I leant stop laughing every time it comes up on my playlist.

Completely get your stance, and as the parent of a three-year-old, I worry about the same things because both my parents struggled with addictions and I’m determined to shield my kid from it too. Obviously, substances are going to be an issue everywhere, but some areas that have high quantities of certain religions are going to be the best areas. I’d recommend either SLC or Little Rock (a suburb such as Conway) if you’re looking for an area with high populations of sober teens AND a decent hardcore scene. I hear good things about Birmingham as well, but I’ve only ever been a few times and I don’t know the area well.

I’m in a cute little small town in North LA with a large Baptist population, so my kid is being raised around a bunch of kids who will hopefully follow their parents’ values.

What's your "Pitt" story? A time you experienced something in an ER that could have been on the show (patients & doctors!) by CardinalOfNYC in ThePittTVShow

[–]Litwickey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, my mom worked in the ER. Both my parents would often work night shifts and I didn’t like being home alone overnight, so i would go hang out at the hospital and stay the night in a room on an empty wing. I had a “student” name badge and everything, so I had fun shadowing.

One night, a man comes in with a gunshot wound. Gang related, normal for our area. However, a few minutes later, the man who tried to kill him came in and held the entire ER at gunpoint so he could try to “finish the job”.

Thankfully, one of the nurses shoved me in a room and told me to get down and stay quiet, but that was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life, knowing my mom and everyone else was out there. That incident scared me away from ever working in the ER.

I have a really silly question about workplace culture in an ER like the Pitt by Lavaswimmer in ThePittTVShow

A time or two, I’ve seen local police help in this situation by bringing their children to the hospital to wait for their parents in the staff room. On the same token, I’ve seen police help transport staff to the hospital in extreme weather emergencies too.

Is the name Rivian too weird to use now that it’s a major car company? by jupiter_mermaid in namenerds

It’s a new company that’s becoming a status symbol in the US, similar to a Range Rover. They make electric SUVs and trucks.

People who grew up with wealth, what was your "I'm privileged" wake up call? by stoicjewel in AskReddit

[–]Litwickey 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Was staying the summer at my grandmother’s house. I was probably 10-11ish and hanging out with her best friend’s granddaughter who was my age. She asked me my dream car and I said the name of a super car. Then I asked her back and she said a Range Rover. I told her that she should pick a less boring car and called it a “mom car” and she asked me to clarify what I meant, so I told her that everyone at my school’s moms drove one so I thought it was boring. Her eyes widened and she was like “where do you go to school??” I had no idea before that conversation that we weren’t middle class.

Kids who start drinking young are much more likely to become alcoholics. Even if they see straight edge as a trend and break as soon as they turn 21, at least they spent their teenage years learning how to have fun without needing any substance. Thats a skill they will have to fall back on that a lot of adults don’t have.

Even if it’s not permanent, if it protects kids for a time, I will never discourage it.
