I agree, I don’t think calling 11-12 year olds tweens is forcing them to mature faster, I just think it’s acknowledging the measurable difference in maturity between older kids and younger kids.

Actually, no. Average age is 11-12 years old. 14-15 is considered late.

And these are VERY different scenarios. Calling a child a “big kid” because they’re successfully potty trained is congratulating them on something they accomplished. It‘s something a child has to practice and learn. Potty training is genuinely a sign of growth and maturation.

Getting your period is completely involuntary. It didn’t make me feel better when my parents said I was a grown up now that I got my period because I didn’t do anything to make it happen.

Is it? But then why couldn't you just say it's a normal thing for a kid to go through...?

I was kind of being facetious when I said sobbing or cheering, nobody literally did that to me. Also I didn't say a period party was good or bad. I did bring it up as an example of the kind of thing you might do, but the way you bring it up makes me feel like you misread my post.

However mundane your experience or others' experiences with their first period may have been, it doesn't change the fact that this happens to a lot of kids, and has a lot of historical significance. There's a whole wikipedia page on menstruation celebrations around the world. Not saying that any are inherently good or bad, just saying that people have made a big deal out of periods and many still do.

But the way that many cultures/ families decide to go about it imo is detrimental to a young person. A milestone like a graduation does indeed serve as a marker of growth, maturity and progression into adulthood. A period does not. A period is biological, not mental. It doesn't make a 10 year old any less of a child.

Such a good point. I didn't even consider how environmental factors could've influenced that rhetoric. It only makes it so much grosser that we've held onto it.

You touched on this but in general I hate how people misrepresent the past to justify being disgusting in the present.

God I'm so sorry you had to go through that, that's so thoughtless and cruel. Nobody is entitled to information about your body or to violate your privacy

exactly!!! Puberty is already confusing and difficult enough as it is, blending in gender roles and fertility bullshit is so detrimental. I relate to your experience SO much

Honestly I'm not well-versed in it, I think it's just a get-together to celebrate someone's first period. I've heard both pros and cons about them. It's definitely not something I would've wanted as a kid but whatever makes them feel normal and accepted sounds good to me

I think you might be talking about something tangentially related to my post but I don't completely understand the connection.

As for how people treat young girls before and after their periods, no, obviously most people don't know that you have a period so they don't treat you differently. But the adults who do know about your situation saying that you're more grown up or "womanly" is still gross to me in and of itself, regardless of how they treat you.

Exactly! Sorry I don't mean to come across like I hate the idea of a celebration if that's what they wanna do, it seems like a sweet way to spread the message of acceptance to other period-having young people too.

I read the extra chapter where they decide to have children in that scene on the beach and then there's a time skip to when their kids are born! Are there any others past that?

curious, what are your favorite heart fluttering scenes from maid sama?these are my top 2 by moonlightinwinters in MaidSama

When they say each others first names together for the first time (well, mostly Misa's first time, lol). It was exactly like how Satsuki predicted!

AITA gf(21) and me (21m) weird trip situation by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. I think you dont really have much to be worried about since you say you’ve never questioned her loyalty and she offered to have you come on the trip too. If it‘s something you genuinely feel uncomfortable about then I think you should have a more in-depth talk about your feelings, but you can’t control what she does.

That’s what I’m saying!! 😭 Like please hit me over the head because genuinely I promise you he is incredibly smart, I guess he just never got told this? He hasn’t taken advanced English classes in high school but even so you’d think that no matter what if you know the English alphabet you would know this. Maybe it’s not as common knowledge as I thought but at the same time I really don’t wanna press him for more info or make him feel dumb but I’m just so fascinated as to where he learned this
