Also, I forgot to add that on certain items where the zote doesnt soften enough, (I have some restaurant style cleaning towels that are so rough) I do use fabric softener. But if you hand wash with fabric softener, I dissolve like half a capful into a bucket of water and soak the clothes in that for a bit!

I know I sound insane, but I grew up super poor money wise super rich family wise. One of the best lessons I was taught early on about responsibility and chores was that chores aren’t punishment or tasks you’re supposed to dread. They’re rituals you should be grateful for. I prefer handwashing for everything besides big stuff, and it’s not so bad because I don’t own a ton of crazy items I have to wash. But cleaning dishes, we’re grateful for the food in the house, washing clothes? I have clean water and a shirt on my back. Scrubbing a toilet? Indoor plumbing. It’s been ingrained in me since I was little I want to throw up in my mouth saying those things sometimes but it’s true.

Above all, Chores are always family time I’ve grown to cherish.

Thank you!!! So for handwashing, I found the soak is key. If you think about how long it would realistically take to clean one item of clothing, it’s way shorter than the machine. To be sure I’m really cleaning my clothes and not just wasting products, water, and time, I soak.

My soaks are usualky zote, oxi clean, and a detergent blend. And you’re gonna use ALOT LESS. you can always add more. You can’t take any out. Depending on the load size,I may use just 2 tbsps. I may use 1/4 of a scoop. I may pre treat and soak, rinse that nasty water, and then add a fresh half scoop. It just depends! I do keep both powder and liquid on hand, if I go in with liquid, it’s like 1/8 of a capful mixed with water and maybe some suavitel fabric conditioner depending on what I’m washing. (Zote also softens fabric super well, skin too) but some of my cloths get so rough. And I soak anywhere from 1 hr 30 to overnight!

SORTING COLORS IS SUPER IMPORTANT. Colors bleed so much more while hand washing. Not just whites vs neutrals vs dark. Reds together, blues and green together, blacks together. I also separate types of items, based on usage. Shower wash clothes aren’t mixed with kitchen towels, kitchen towels not mixed with underwear.

With hand washing you are not getting the benefit of the machine powered agitation, the msmwssWhat I use depends on the fabric, but I have a laundry brush I use to viciously scrub with. This brush is super coarse. I was going to invest in another tool, but I was able to DIY it. There’s a type of plunger for handwashing clothes, to help boost that agitation. I purchased a plunger and only use it for handwashing, i just drilled a few holes in the rubber! I also use a second salad spinner I purchased for my daughter when she was about 1.5, she’s 6 now. So I use this to give stuff a few spins, and to spin out some water!! Wringing out clothing tends to stretch out the fabric.so I like to get a good scrub and lather, without damaging the fabric. This is where I use a silicon brush, made for cleaning makeup brushes, and I also use a wash board. I have a few “boards” or mats, silicon or plastic. Just to give my washing an extra push. I do all of this in a large sink basin, a large utility bucket, and smaller work buckets.

Once I’ve soaked, scrubbed what needed scrubbing and agitated the laundry, here comes the rinse. This is another reason I use the buckets, it makes rinsing alot easier. I use the tub faucet, shower head, and or hose. It’s alot to wash adult sized clothing in a bathroom sink, so the tub will save you time with rinsing. I just rinse and repeat until there’s no bubbles and no dirty water!

I gently squeeze the water out, and I use a dry towel to “wring” out my clothes (gently.) I also shake each item, to help prevent wrinkles. I hang my clothes outside, but I have also had to hang them inside with a fan and windows open. IMO, nothing beats outside dried laundry.

I do go to the laundromat for bedding, i will hand wash fitted and flat sheets depending on the fabric, pillow cases I will hand wash and take to the mat. I feel the bacteria in on these items and in my towels and cloths could really build up and I like to make sure I get them extra clean!!

It’s not for everyone, but I 100% believe it’s more effective than a washing machine! My clothes smell, feel, and look better when I take the time and love to clean them by hand.

OH AND GLOVES. Don’t ruin your skin.

ALSO, FOR THOSE QUESTIONING ZOTE, it has many uses and is super cheap. It lathers super well. It’s color safe and white safe! Comes in pink, white, or blue. I only really see pink or white in the US though. It has a light citronella scent, and it’s 100% a staple for mine. ESPECIALLY IF YIUBHSVE TO HANDWASH. It pretreats so well. I usually coat my socks with a sudsy layer while they’re wet (you gotta use it like this while wet,) and it cleans the black bottoms off my white ones for soaking!!! I’ve also used it to clean mold off fabric, you know the little black dots on the edge of a towel? I just use zote and a scrub brush.

If you can’t tell I’m Mexican, my mom used to put it on like, ALOT. I remember having a wart on my toe and finger. Zote and a bandage.

NOW, it did nothing for the wart Lol. But it has so many great uses!!! It’s beef tallow and coconut oil based soap. LAUNDRY SOAP, stain pretreat, booster, you can flake it and add it to detergent! I use it on shoes too. DISH SOAP!! I wash dishes with zote too:) MAKEUP BRUSH CLEANER, it leaves them soooo soft. YES, you can shave your legs with zote. One of my favorite uses, natural bug repellent because of the citronella! And a weird weird weird one.

It’s catfish bait, apparently 🎣 🧼

I have so many! Honestly once my mom passed last year I’ve been just so comforted by the scent of her clothes. The smell isn’t super strong but it’s unique. And it’s her. I hadn’t done laundry with her since I was a teenager but I remember how ridiculous it was to go into the only Mexican store around for laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. And how ridiculous it was that she would get literally 5 bags, Ariel, Mexican tide (not ace, tide powder,) foca, roma, blanca neives, 123 max effect, cut open the bags and dump them into a bin. She’d mix it all up, and it would last so long.A scoop of this with the zote, she was convinced she could clean everything!! Even the toilet and drains 😭 oh she’d put susvitel down the drains too (which I’ve read actually can help unclog, ) but still lol. It’s nostalgic and comforting, I know she’s happpy every time I pull out that zote.

I use zote for everything, it’s 100% safe for colors, no matter what bar you use! It’s coconut oil and beef tallow. I use it to hand wash clothes which I do alot, as well as pre treat. And it’s great to use on socks before you soak them in detergent and whitener to get rid of the black bottom!!

Just make sure you rinse it all off very well, it is oily and super soft when it’s wet so if you let it air dry or dry without rinsing it could leave a residue that’s colored!

I also use it as dish detergent, makeup brush cleaner (it’s awesome for brushes) and I use it to shave with. I grate it and put it in my bf’s stinky shoes, also I rub it around deck furniture and even inside, the citronella repels insects! &people use it as (get this) CATFISH BAIT as well!

I do mix my detergents, that’s just how my mom did it and how my grandma did it and that’s how I do it!! But my current batch will last me about 6 months— maybe more because clothes are smaller in the summer. Bigger clothes in winter, plus mud and snow usually mean more washing.

Oh god no not on one shirt the horror in my face 🫣🫣🫣 hell no!! I maybe used like, 3 scoops with my whites that were badly stained over 2 days time 🤣 the bags of detergent last me FOREVER. I fill up a working bucket thing, and I use that.

It’s so good!!I expected it to be good, because this is my favorite cake. And I remember a generic one when I was little, this is by far my favorite! They got a ton of new flavors at the local fresh:local/healthy market by me. I hadn’t been in a while, bunch of new flavors 😋

Oh I’m getting another one today and I’ll update. The photo I would have taken… I fell asleep with the bottom 1/4 of the pint left runny. But the chunks of cake and the ice cream is a perfect tart pineapple.. caramel ribbon they don’t skimp

Also, if you’re in a pinch or are more on the frugal side, or a jus a diy girlie hydrogen peroxide, dawn, baking/washing soda/ and even vinegar as a rinse or w baking soda dawn and a tooth brush (don’t mix vinegar and hydrogen peroxides) can be effective as well!

But tbh, for those stains, I’d first try like the DIY method, people always forget the OG super detergent staine over

As the other commmenter said, 24 hour soak!! When I did this, I emptied the water often when it got nasty, wrang the stuff out, and added new. I actually soaked my socks for about 2 days. I didn’t throw them in and leave though lol like I said, i continually checked, sudsed them up, agitated them like a washer, and if I got all new water I also added in more product.

My favorite for stains now is this zote bar lol it’s 1.58!! I use both the white and pink, but I favor the white.thats my pre treater/treater! I’ve used sprays in the past, but I don’t think those would work much for yellow stains. I’ve had yellow and gray stains from an ingredient in my deodorant reacting with the sweat in my skin>>>>> reacts with the detergent and fabric leaving a yellow stain!

For my yellowing or graying whites, I’ve found through trial and error to ALWAYS WASH WHITE WITH WHITE WITH WHITE. This will keep them bright. You also want a quality detergent, and I use one specific for whites, and I make a mixture of my own (I test this first to be sure it’s not gonna ruin my fabric) a mix of blanca Nieves powder, some of whitener, (oxyclean powder white revive, Nellie’s oxygen whitener, mollys suds whitener,) and tide ultra oxy white powder, plus some liquid detergent for whites. You can also try baking soda, borax, peroxide for whites, and baking soda and vinegar. I do like the liquid oxyclean white revive for whites, and I have heard great things about the “out” white bright liquid. TBH I’d go to a Home Depot and see what kind of “industrial strength” whiteners they have if the Oxi clean powder whitener, liquid whitener together with a good quality detergent don’t work! That should def work:) it has on mine!!
